I would buy a white one so people could see that "That's an iPod!"

I wouldn't buy one....it's simply status-symbol hysteria....to fit in with the crowd.

Show yourself to be an individual and not a sheep....and get something else.

Jafo is right. The cool guy is the one who does not conform. The one who is border line eccentric. Not just one of the sheep following along.

Yep, and when you come out of the sauna, cos really COOL people go there to relax with their friends, how ya gonna know if you picked up the right on....cos they're all exactly the same

it won't matter which one you pick, because after a month they'll both be the same color (once they scratch)

isn't that why some people buy the iPod leather case. TO PROTECT IT.

if it's in a case, it won't matter what color it is.

But the colour of the case will Now is that a brown or black leather case, sir?....thus making the Ipod colour irrelevant...so go for the rainbow one to cover the whole spectrum...cos deep down inside, you'll know....

I did read somewhere, however, just removing it from the case has been known to scratch the display

Yeah Apple admitted that there was a problem and they know the Nano scratches very easy. Yet they said it's not there fault. Go figure.

In putting all levity aside, Bash...have a look at what's on offer and choose something that's value for money. There's many portable media players out there to choose from, so go for something that's to your tastes and requirements.

I am so ashamed... I have to admit I have an iPod video... in black. I would recommend if you are getting a nano to go with the white... for only one reason: the scratches will show up worse on the black one. The video has the same problem, and my black one has already led an EXTREMELY sheltered existence... yet it has scratches a plenty. There is a company, though that can protect your asset, and at the same time allow you to be cool with (IMHO) the absolute coolest mp3 player (iPod) in the absolute coolest color (black): invisible shield.. Link you can get one for about 20.00 plus s/h. this is by far the best way to protect your iPod, in addition, pick up some applesause polish from them while you are at it.

So, there is my shameful plug and admission. However, I must say that the iPod has a GREAT interface, and contrary to common and popular belief you can put anything on it with little more than some free (legitimately) software. (sharepod). well, that's all. gotta go load iTunes and listen to some more music.

Hated 'em. Looked dumb. Sheep! Following the latest expensive fad. (Eeyore: Oh, well...)
Got one yesterday for my daughter. They're cool. Going out today and get one for myself. Haven't even got it yet & already bought a new Clapton album Escondido to put on it when it comes home. Bah! Like a new puppy. Another mouth to feed. Anything but paying attention. Cool. Hmmm...let's see..the Shuffle? The silver? Blue? Glue crap all over it?/

First... Don't buy an iPod. Get a Microsoft Zune, (black), it has more stuff installed then the iPod will ever have.

Creative Zen Micro/Microphoto - sound quality beats the s*&t out of the iPod.

Sit on the fence (careful of the important bits, though)- got the silver a few weeks ago....kinda brushed metal/aluminum look. So far no scratches, like the pained ones seem to get.

Closure:
iPod Shuffle. 1GB. Put an album on it and barely showed on the progress-bar for how full Listening now to Alan Watts lecture, alternating with Santana Abraxis. Dang thing's smaller than a large postage stamp. Basicly a CF card with a user-interface. Great for the price. Happy.

what if this was the entire PC, with bluetooth-type chrome contact lenses for display, and wireless gloves for mouse/keyboard functions...    Tinfoil hat w/beanie-propellor and solar cells for power..
