Sounds and Audio

Help out

I need help fixing the sound on my computer.  Im not sure where to find the uninstall button for my speakers to try to uninstall and reinstall them if that will work.  I need to know where to go to see information on my soundcard.

If you have any information on these then send them to my e-mail

Ouch, that font's hard on the eyes.  Speakers don't need any software or drivers to run, they receive a signal from the computer and process that themselves.

To find out information about your soundcard (among other things), go to Start->Run and type in "dxdiag" and press enter. Click "No" if it asks about checking for WHQL, it will just take longer and is not necessary.

If you're trying to fix your computer's sound, you should first check to see that the drivers are all ok.

Open Device Manager

  • Right click on "My Computer"
  • Click "Properties"
  • Click the "Hardware" tab
  • Click the "Device Manager" button
  • If you see anything like Driver/Hardware Issue, you will either need to reload your driver or replace your hardware.

If that checks out, the next stop is the Sounds and Audio devices, which you should find in the control panel.  Click the audio tab and make sure there is an available device for "Sound Playback." If there is, try testing another audio output device such as headphones or another set of speakers.
