Can only control secondary for few seconds

Can only control secondary for few seconds

While I had some problems with earlier versions of mulitplicity, version 1.02 seemed to work good until about 5 months ago. The cursor will readily go from the primary screen (right screen) to the secondary screen (left screen) but after about 2 to 5 seconds the cursor moves back to the primary in the upper right hand corner. I have the alert box feature on to tell me what screen the keyboard and mouse are controlling. When I switch to the secondary machine it indicates that I'm controlling the secondary machine from the primary console. When the switch back to the primary occurs the alert box disappears as if I had switched manuall. There is virtually no traffic on the network. Ping times are less than 1 msec. I've tried using keyboard shortcuts instead of the mouse to the edge of the screen with the same results. I've seen some suggestions to turn off clipboard sharing. I'm not sure how to do this and I wouldn't want to do it except for trouble shooting as this is a valuable feature.

Any help will be appreciated.

I've been having this problem for some time now as well. It was fine for a while, but started acting up when the 1.04 beta came out and now nothing I can do seems to have any real effect (I've tried everything here and more, including reinstalling older versions, which didn't work). The exact symptoms seem to change almost daily. Sometimes disconnecting, sometimes just stalling and lagging really bad, today it started stalling and then performing all mouse movments that I made while it was stalled (but more quickly).

Last night I got the idea to do an Ethereal capture, it looked like it was getting lots of errors, re-requesting every packet. When the stall occurs it just wouldn't get anything, it was just a big block of errors.

One thing I hadn't thought of before is that my mouse is a gaming mouse with a high USB polling rate. I kind of wonder if this has anything to do with it. What kind of mouse is everyone using that is having this problem?

I'm really hoping something can be figured out soon. Of all the Stardock software I've bought this is the one that I bought as a productivity tool, but with this I can only get about half as much done.

It does sound like your network is losing packets.  Is it wireless or wired?  How busy is the network?

A high polling rate will be making MP send more data, but the fact that after the stall it does the movements quickly suggests MP is able to cope with that higher rate.  The problem is the data is getting stalled.

If you ping the machine you are connecting to with the -t switch (so ping 192.168.2.100 -t for example), does it ever lose any packets?

Well my problem is actually solved. I just got a new wireless access point today with bandwidth of 108Mb/s, the previous one only had 11Mb/s. With the new access point, shaking the mouse around peaks at 268k/s, so the previous access point just couldn't handle it, especially if there was anything using any bandwidth. It does seem a little excessive to use that much, but hey.. it's working for me now. I actually only upgraded the AP for security, but this is a very nice side benefit

So, lesson learned: Get a good AP, one with lots of bandwidth and encryption better than WEP
