It's goint to take a miracle to get the Cards in the World Series, but at least the Sox are there

"Amazingly, it was the first time since LCS play began in 1969 that one team produced four complete games from its starting pitchers. The last time it happened in the postseason was in 1956, when five Yankees -- Whitey Ford, Tom Sturdivant, Don Larsen, Bob Turley and Johnny Kucks -- turned the trick against the Brooklyn Dodgers. Larsen's was also a perfect game."

It was almost five complete games; the bullpen only pitched 2/3 of an inning in game one. That's remarkable in this day and age. Back in 1956 it was a LOT more commonplace for pitchers to pitch complete games.

Sox fans:

Would you rather see the Sox face
A- The team they are most likely to beat
OR
B- The best NL team

(assume for the sake of discussion
- A & B are not the same team
AND
- A & B are in the current NL series)

Personally I want to see the best play the best

Just an observation from a non-American, how many countries make up this World series?

I don't know, but MLB rosters are made up from the best players from all over the world.

For instance, The Chicago White Sox have a pitcher who was on the Cuba National Team, An infielder who was an all star in Japan, and players from Venezuela, The Dominican Republic, Korea, Mexico, The United States, ...

So, no non-American teams then?

The 1st World Series was held in 1903, 102 years ago. People thought differently back then. It's possible that if the series had a more recent origin, it might might not be called the World Series. There are baseball teams in other countries, but differences such as smaller ballparks make comparisons an 'apples & oranges' situation.

So Yes, the teams are all US teams, BUT, like Tarkus & SD said, the players come from around the world. Given the state of the world these days, I believe that having players from many cultures pulling together as a team to work for a common goal over several months makes a more positive long-term contribution than bringing in teams from various countries to face off against each other for a one-week series. (IMHO, of course)

It's one fo the things I love most about the game
Multiply the effect times 30 teams & their farm systems.
And US players off the rosters or off season often play in other countries.

Depends on if you count Canada as part of America.

Nothing against Canada but if I am hypothetically going to consider another country as America I vote for Sweden. Swedes are way better looking than canucks.

...and the Expos. erp. Nationals, never mind.

I've yet to see a Swede, NT. Yrgal is Norwegian, and he's ok but not my type (since he's a dude). Maybe I'll have to visit there to see if you speak the truth.

I actually thought the origin of the World Series was that it was started by a newspaper called The World or News of the World, or something like that. Hence, the series is named after the paper who started it all, rather than any claim that there isn't any world outside the USA.

Am I right? Does anyone know for sure?
