It's kind of a shame

from JoeUser Forums
Full of dreams and hope
as we trundle out of bed
every morning
we go forward
full of ideas, full of chances
fresh glitter and smiles.

We tell ourselves that
we're going to take that chance
that undeniable chance
is ours today
and we promise ourselves
there will be no
pain
here and there.

We tell ourselves that
some little inside joke that
we play on ourselves
to keep us going, maybe?
Maybe it's not a joke
Maybe it's the truth

We live our truths, don't we?
Or do we?

It's kind of a shame
that by the end of the day
we're such an emotional void
so drained and lifeless
sort of glad we made it
just made it
through the day.

What is it about sleep that makes us wake up each day?
That little bit of death
that brings us to life
and
what is it about our dreams that make us alive?

The raw survival instinct...and our faith. The dead don't dream, nor do they wake (Unless they're vampires or zombies) so, yeah...it's that little spark that keeps waking us up.

Though, it's easier to wake up when there's going to be someone there for you...

This is a damn good poem, btw. I tend to like the philosophical questioning a lot

I'm glad you enjoyed it. A friend and I were talking about this for about an hour, and I decided to write this poem on his laptop.

I guess at some point most people feels like this. Especially if it's been a harrowing day at work or even at home after dealing with the kids!

I'm glad I don't have too many days like that though!

A good question! I guess it's because we have to. Or it's because that's the way we recharge ourselves and we're fit and ready once again to face the day! And of course if we don't wake up, then you know what has happened!

I like that question about dreams. I don't have a good enough response for it yet, but it's got me thinking!
