I thought I would give this link to The Humane Society in case anyone is interested in helping the poor animals that were left behind during the evacuation and somehow survived. There are thousands of them. They now have no home, no food, and no fresh water. What they do have is alot of fear, hunger and thirst. Every little bit helps. Please help with what you can so the volunteers can go there and rescue these poor things and their families. Thanks for whatever you can do.

You're welcome Cyberworld. I put it up since the animals are usually the last ones thought about, and to me they are just as important because they are not able to make plans of escape. This aid will also help the owners of the animals.

i completely agree with you Clwoods. People think about people (who have the brains to plan an escape) but don't care about the animals (who don't have the brains to plan an escape).

by the way, i hope the hurricane doesn't go towards New York. THAT'S WHERE I AM!!!

And if it does, hopefully it will be less stronger than it was in the south.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I live in the south and am very familiar with hurricanes. If it does reach your area, it won't amount to anything more than a common summer thunderstorm, or maybe just some rain.

I don't know about that, Bash. I believe during the infamous Tsunami of last year (which took the lives of many many people), that animals took to the high ground and were saved from devastation because of their "instinct" to sense and prepare for imminent danger. Not to diminish the major story of the loss of human life, I felt that that was one of the more interesting stories of the tsunami.

The bottom line is that we are all God's creatures... man, woman and animal alike. While we as humans certainly do come first, it is wonderful that there are people out there who are thinking about the animals. Especially people's pets. Pets are family to many people just as people are.

My girlfriend was going to law school at Layola in New Orleans and lost everything. So i'm going to help her recover clothes etc which is why i didn't donate more. But i wanted to do something being an animal lover and guardian of 5 cats

You can also help the human victims


I started this thread because the animals are always over looked in times of crisis. Everyone knows how to donate and help people through the Red Cross. Very few think about the suffering of the animals, and therefore do not care or know how to help them. The Red Cross is already very well known and well advertised. This thread is here for the animals. Helping people should never prevent us from remembering to help all of God's creation. I also think that an animal being rescued and returned to their owner is another way of helping the human victims. Not to mention the help in keeping disease carrying carcases from increasing. And after all, the animal victims of Katrina did not choose where they live, nor did they choose to be left behind. That belongs to the humans who decided to take on a pet and not make proper plans for them in case of this kind of emergency.

Such a natural disaster is devastation enough for all in its path, humans and animals alike, but what's totally disgusting me is to read that low-life scum, purporting to be human beings, are looting what few remaining possessions people may have left. That is the lowest of the low, and sadly, 'Looters will be shot on sight' has become a thing of the past....where's that divine bolt of lightning when you need one.

My thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected by this tragedy....I went through the 1974 floods of Brisbane (Aust) and know first-hand of the devastation of disasters of this magnitude. Several members of my family lost everything they owned and had to rely on the good will of others to help rebuild, refurnish and reclothe. Hopefully community spirit and good faith is the order of things there, and everyone affected can rapidly return to normal life.

I agree with you Starkers. In 96 Fran came through my town a hurricane with just 75 mile an hour winds, and the devestation was something I don't ever want to see again. It took 4 day's for anyone to get to our house, and we did not have the flooding as we are inland. There was no power, emergency service, water, ice, phone, gas, nothing for days, and in some places it was weeks and months until these things we take for granted were restored. I couldn't even see my lawn. It was covered in down trees, leaves and acorns. I felt like I was in the twilight zone when the dawn came. She had come like a thief in the night. Many died and were homeless in my area. The coast was far worse. My heart goes out to ALL that are affected. I too know first hand what it is like.

I'm actually a Vanguard member of PETA but also donate regularly to PetSmart Charities. You can never donate too much to animal charities imho.

Iben: Do you really think it was necessary to hijack the thread? Tens (if not hundreds) of millions of dollars are being donated to the human charities. Why you feel the need to point out that there are human charities is beyond me.

And just because some of us donate to animal charities doesn't mean we neglect other causes. TSF donated 500 dollars to both the Tsunami victims and just recently the Niger Famine victims. As the company grows and we generate more revenue the amounts we donate will increase as well.

I am so glad to hear that. I am a volunteer for phone line duty at a local no kill facility called Second Chance Pet Adoption of North Carolina. Most of our Adoptathons are held at various PetSmart's in the area. We couldn't do what we are doing without them. Thanks alot!!

Iben, I appreciate your concern over mine and anyone's ability who responds to the actual topic of this thread to help the human victims. I assure you that I am able and willing to support both people and animals. I always have and I always will. So, please understand that I have a right to ask help for the animals. As The Skins Factory and I said earlier, everyone knows about the Red Cross and how to donate to them already. Believe it or not, some people have enough compassion to help both people and animals. I am one of them. I acknowledge that your compassion is limited to helping only people. You have made that clear. If you feel so strongly that the Red Cross needs more advertising than they already have, you should start a thread of your own. I personally don't need you to tell me who I should donate to, but thanks anyway.
