A lot of you know who Cindy Sheehan is. She's the mom leading the protest/vigil outside dubya's hideout in Crawford Texas. This article isn't about her protest. Others have covered that . This is about what happened yesterday....

Some redneck asshole took it upon themselves to drive through a few rows of the crosses erected on the side of the road. These crosses were part of her protest, and had the names of every american soldier, sailor, airman and marine killed in the Iraq war. Regardless of how you feel about her protest, i think you should be outraged. These crosses represent the sacrifices these kids made for the good old USA. It shows how some people feel about any dissent towards the war. They will go so far as to descecrate the names of those who gave all. It also shows that some will go to any length to disrespect anyone who opposes the war. Those crosses represent the losses of the families of the dead. Wether they are temporary or not is irrelevant. It is a slap in the face of every family who has lost a loved one. Regardless of how they feel about Mrs. Sheehan's protest.

But i'm not too suprised it happened. I was expecting something to happen. I never would have thought those who support the war would sink to such a level. One dumbass redneck gives the rest of you a black eye.

I guess i gave a few of them too much credit. My bad!

These crosses represent nothing of the kind.

They represent the protestors' frustration with the war, the deaths it's caused, and the President who ordered it.

My outrage is reserved for those who would turn our soldier's sacrifice into a cheap publicity stunt, played for blind emotionalism instead of rational debate.

Both those who put the crosses up and those who ran them down are behaving badly. But hey, if they want to have dueling temper tantrums instead of dueling ideas, it's a free country...

Folks like you are so into supporting this fiasco you forget that peaceful protest isn't always a bad thing. She isn't breaking any laws. Folks like you seem to forget that peaceful assembly is legal, but you cry and whine when they go against your beliefs.

It's like that quote from "Animal Farm"

"All animals are created equal. Some are more equal than others"

Look at it this way. Suppose it was your son or daughter who's name was on one of the crosses mowed down. Wouldn't it bother you a little that someone did that?

I agree with Stutefish, both sides of the situation you bring up are desicrating the memories of those killed in Iraq.

The biggest insult is calling it "Camp Casey". "Casey" supported the war and Prs. Bush. Where does his mother get off using his name for a cause he didn't agree with?

If the crosses had the names of soldiers who died, and this is not a representation of those who died, then what were they there for? The news link said:

"Late Monday, a pickup truck tore through rows of white crosses that stretched about two-tenths of a mile along the side of the road at the Crawford camp. The crosses bore the names of fallen U.S. soldiers. No one was hurt."

Why would someone do this if it wasn't because they were upset and ignorant to what this woman was doing?


Regardless of the way how this mother chose to protest, whether she's wrong or right, her son died, she does what she wants to do to show her disagreement with his death, whether we like it or not. Who are we to say how she should behave, that's how she feels about it.

The driver of that truck is disrespectful!

I agree that this act is nasty..the driver should be imprisoned with no trial.. right? of course cindy leaving her family behind, her son pleading for her to come home does not matter, nor does it matter that she is destroying the memory of her fallen son by using his death as a political tool.

maybe you might feel different if a group of nasty hippy types were camped out on your doorstep, calling you a murderer.

NOWHERE in your linked article does it say "redneck"! Only a driver of a pick-up. Other people drive pick-ups besides rednecks! And just as an aside....pretty bad when her own husband basically disowns what shes doing and files for divorce, don't you think?

You ever been to Crawford Miler? I have! I don't remember seeing any Volvo's or Subaru Outbacks anywhere in that whole county.

Seems to me that it was the death of their son that is causing their divorce. Not the protest.

Whatever happened to the good old american counter protest? Ever think of that? IF someone protests and you don't like it...You conterprotest! Not drive your chevy through the other guys.

Now that wouldn't be right now would it? I don't think any of us said he should be. He's just showing his/her anger the wrong way just like the mother is doing. But that's both their individual choices to do. Good thing no one got hurt from the truck.

Obviously she's lost sight of what really matters the most. I don't live in her home so I don't know her reasoning, nor have I been following the story in detail. Who knows what her reasoning is for doing this, really, apart from what the reports have said. She's making the president look bad, that's a given; she's making the soldiers fighting for us look bad, that too; she's making the death of her son meaningless, definately.

But that's not what she's thinking about. She doesn't look at it this way. People who are grieving do it in different ways and she obviously feel she's justified in protesting the way she is regardless of how we all feel.

You still miss the point.  It very well could have been a communist who disagrees with the war and thought the crosses were a counter protest.  HOw do YOU know it was a redneck?

You dont.  And until the culprit is caught, it might as well have been a member of the far left fringe trying to INCITE  violence.

And jsut because there are no Subarus, I doubt you talked to everyone in Crawford, therefore you dont know who is a liberal, or redneck, and at this time, even if the driver was from crawford.

I have been to SLC.  So I can safely say that everyone there is a Mormon?  Same logic.

I think she's a grieving mother who may be subject to the influence of people around her who would use her tragedy for political purposes.

I get very angry with people who wish to trash this woman. If you understand anything about the grief process, you can surmise that this woman is sincerely trying to make something of value and make some sense of what's happened to her family. You may not agree that her crusade is constructive, but it does appear that she is attempting to deal with her grief through these actions. I will grant that she be being misguided by people around her, but I have no doubt that's she sincere in her motives.

I REFUSE to criticize a woman who has lost a child to war. I REFUSE. I don't care if she covers herself in doo-doo and chocolate sprinkles and rides a tricycle through Wal-Mart.

She lost her child.

I think that anyone who would even consider driving through those crosses is an asshole. It's the height of disrespect. Even if you do not agree with the woman's stance on the war, how could you possibly think it's OK to DRIVE THROUGH these tokens...these reminders...of the sacrifice of our military?

If you don't like them, find out how to have them moved or taken down through the appropriate channels. DO NOT fucking drive your damn pickup truck over them!

PS - While you are correct that Texans are generally rednecks, don't dismiss the kind, warm, friendly, patriotic spirit of Texas because of this single redneck retard.

This thread is a good representation of how it should be done folks. Civil and rational discussion. Not dissent via a truck bumper. I wish the folks hanging out in Crawford would work it out in such a manner. We don't have to agree, and some of us rarely do. But my point is that there are better ways to disagree and make your points than resulting to reckless and potentially dangerous acts.

That's what makes America great. Agreeing to disagree!
