titlebar buttons, gone?

i've been working on 2 skins off n' on. i get to the point on each where i add my titlebar buttons and they preview perfectly. but, when i apply the skin the buttons are missing. they still function in the areas they should but aren't graphically displayed.
the only things that i think could be causing this are the fact that my title buttons are the same height as the title bar. maybe theres some conflict? i'm also not absolutly sure what all the attributes do, or what attributes i have to completly reset to avoid errors.
but yah. you guys have any ideas?
