Opening microsoft files by clicking on icon

Hello,
Pardon my ignorance but was hoping someone can point me in the right direction.-- I have a new DELL and installed a legitimate copy of office
onto it. Whenever i double click a document (Word/Excel)The program
launches, but the document doesnt load.
I reinstalled office and also tried deleting the normal.dot file and
ran word to create a new one. All have not given me a solution. Also did a repair from the help menu in word without help. I'm pretty sure that the file types are listed properly in the tools/folder options
BTW from within Word/Excel i can go to the open menu, and open any file
without difficulty, but I cannot tolerate this problem.
I recently read that someone else also had a similar problem and narrowed down the problem to IconPackager 3.0. Uninstalling the packager program did the trick.
Again, pardon my ignorance, but was hoping someone could help.
Thanks,
a.

IF it is the icon packager problem, then you don't need to uninstall IconPackager you just need to unregister the iprepair.dll and reboot. The most recent update of IP does not include iprepair.dll, so you could uninstall IP, reboot, install the newest version and be all set. Otherwise just unregister the iprepair.dll in the main iconpackager folder (regsvr32 /u iprepair.dll)

If that's not it, I have no idea why you can't launch the program with the document loaded.
