I think I broke something

I was fiddling around with desktop X and tried opening windows media player and got this message: "An internal application error has occured".
I can't use it at all no matter what I try. So far I've tried the following...

1) restarted the computer
2) uninstalled DX and windows blinds
3) reinstalled DX and windows blinds
4) reinstalled WMP

Nothing has worked yet.

Also, the search field for finding files, folders, etc. doesn't work, it just appears blank.

Does anyone know how to fix these problems?

I have the same problem.
Every method I tried so far worked, but until next boot only.
These are:
- registering the jscript.dll and vbscript.dll (including with an unregistry step before)
- modifying the key regitry for these files
- replacing these files with the original ones (in case of a corruption problem)
- reinstalling visual basic (as yrag propose)
and a few other things, I always get the problem back.
