When will it ever arrive?

www.desktopgadgets.com !
Can someone please comment on when Desktop Gadgets will ever be up and running? I see the comment about Gadgets being simple stand alone Executables - but where are people posting them for Public Use? By the looks the site for this is linked above but it has been this way for MONTHS!

Any ideas on when we can see something legit come of it?

Thanks,

Personally, I can;t wait for it to open, but I really REALLY hope it is as slick as Konfabulators widget gallery website is.

That would be very nice.

What scares me about it is that you (author) - developer of gadget will have an option to sell the Gadget. What if the code has been taken from a free one and tweaked by simple graphic (jpg or whatever) but does the same thing? Does the orginal Author of the free Gadget get mad and sue the other one who is charging for the gadget? You know where I am going with this?
Who can possibly monitor the entire upload library to make sure things are legit...seems to be a large undertaking.

I am very excited about it as for example I LOVE the Neowin Gadget!

Anyway - just some things I was thinking about as far as Legalities and true ownership...... I believe the community should share the gadgets freely amoungst the users and not try to cash in on everything they can.... dont get me wrong the suites like Orion and Natural Desktops are fine..but simeple lil executables that do simple tasks and charge $2 or $5 for....jeeesh. I'd rather pay Stardock for a Gadget enviornment and use the Gadgets freely like Window Blinds for the most part.

Keep up the Good Work - Brad Love where Stardock has gone from previous years!

As with any product, the consumer has the freedom of choice to either purchase or not.

This is an opportunity for authors to get paid for work done.

I look forward to gadgets for the simple reason that I prefer fewer processes (services as seen by OS) running on my machine.

Gadgets will have to compete with widgets (in all forms).  So if a gadget is little more than some stand alone existing widget then it probably won't sell.  Moreover, Desktopgadgets.com will have severe moderation.  We're not looking to have 30 clocks on there.

I'd think that the gadgets that will be seen on the gadget site will be more than just the weather and system monitors we see here. DesktopX is capable of creating some really wicked applications. I imagine we'll see applications we see in the current shareware industry, only better looking.
