off topic - SSDD-DX still rocks

I'm of the opposite mind. I'm impatient to get my hands on the Vista WindowBlinds, Vista CursorXP set, Vista LogonUI, Vista IP set, etc. What's taking so long?

This happens every time, Everything was XP, and or OS-X, Or Tiger, people always want what is comeing out. The funny thing is with vista, you wont realy be able to get it, at least untill window blinds 5 comes out.

I've made a Vista logon... It's name just says "Longhorn" instead. Search for Longhorn 5203 in the Logons gallery.

Same here, but I personally don't care for anything that has Vista, Windows etc. Customization to me is about making my computer look as unWindows/Microsoft as possible. Why anyone would want a mock up skin, wall etc of an OS, Vista, that is a good year away is beyond me.

I personally don't care [much] for the name "Vista", but there obviously are some that do. I started making a wall for it the day it [new name] was announced, but it seems others had the same idea.

I got sidetracked and delayed the upload of the wallpaper ~and by the time I got a chance to upload it, there were already a few others there.

Because Customizing is not a narrow, insular concept that it 'must be different from the OS'....particularly when in this case the 'difference' is that the changes/skinning is being done to an OS that is NOT 'Vista' and therefore is as you claim...different from the OS.

Some of the most popular skin 'concepts' are simply 'ports' to an alternate OS.

Personally I'd rather see a clever port of an OS than yet another recolour of Luna.

In Win3.11 you could put a different colour scheme on....or you could use Calmira and imitate Win 9x [and beyond].  The former is painting by numbers...the latter is 'skinning'...

Well maybe yes but when taken in context of unWidows/Microsoft as I said is my personal taste, Vista is an OS that does not yet exist but it is still Microsoft. And stating why anyone would want is beyond me is based on my personal taste. I know what customization is about and it is to each his own, just stating my opinion.

And here was I, thinkin' nausea was caused by something noxious or obnoxious. Tho I do remember an incident in an art gallery with a way out there abstact....t'was subsequent to a heavy night of top-shelf, however.

It seems Vista is the way of the near future for PC, so why not, for those who have siezed the moment to express their enthusiasm.

It has nothing to do with that. I happen to like MS products.
It is common knowledge that SOME people will submit anything "Vista" "Longhorn" etc to exploit the name just to gain popularity.
Nothing I have seen yet appears to demonstrate that behavior though. The key word here is YET.
That is the part that causes the bile to bubble beneath my belly.
