All things considered as far as Micro$oft's technical and practical ambitions go for this product, the name fits.

We'll just have to wait and see if that moniker applies, once we consumers get our mitts on it.

I'm sure folks from Texas like Longhorn better. I like Vista. It coincides with "windows" better than a steer does.

Well "Longhorn" sounded like a tribute to Texas! Now "Vista" sounds more Mexican to me. Never mind ah like'em both equally... True though a Windows box labeled Longhorn would have gotten lotsa folks down here to get curious about the content. Well ah'll be darned... (I do know it's the name of some Starbucks-like café in British Columbia folks at MS loved to take a chill at)

Well i can tell you that it's a good name for us latins (i'm from Portugal, no it's not part of Spain!). Vista can mean "a view to".
Good name

I agree with PixieChick, I first thought automotive as well... I guess it's ok, but what will they rename it for the tablet version? Zephyr?? after all where is the logical progression? 3.1, 95, 98, NT, Me, 2000, XP...Vista? I'd say either way with Longhorn or Vista, the prblem with the name is the word "Windows" how about "Mircosoft Longhorn" or "Microsoft Vista" not "Windows Vista", a vista is something you'd see through a window so it seems redundant..... if anything for the logical progression, how about "Windows NM" for "New Millenium", or maybe "Microsoft AW" for "After Windows" or for that matter even just a simple "Windows 2006" would suffice...

Personally, I don't give a crap about the name... just as long as the product is a good one. But I did always think Longhorn was stupid...

Without all the features they've taken out (No WinFS? And where are our tiltable windows?) they'd be more accurate calling it Windows "Hiccup". The review I read of build 5048 positively lambasted the thing.

I don't care, so long as it works and is practical, the name is irrelevant and is only a handle to separate it from other Windows versions.

With previous mention to the automotive, let's just hope MS make it a peoples Windows and attach a Volkswagon rather than a Mercedes price to it.

Then again, the 5048 version wasn't even a beta...

To be honest, I think it's potentially false advertising. "Vista" implies clarity (which was M$'s point) and transparency. This sounds counter to many of M$'s own policies and goals... (laugh)

I liked longhorn, besides if Apple can have 50 different kinds of cats for 50 different versions of the same OS, windows should be able to have some bull.

Yep. Let us give our nice ole cows a try! I'm pretty sure they could have gotten plenty of folks into the computer store buy the box with the nice horns on it and all! Bummer.

Ummm, think about it. Vista and Visa are oddly close, don't you think?

i don't care about the name i think its good anyway. but longhorn was kind of cool.

As long as more thought has gone into the final product than the name of it i guess it'll be ok..

now i have to try and find Windows Vista ones?

and not to mention i really liked the name longhorn and i'm sure if a lot of us had our way it woulda stayed Longhorn.....but we obviously dont so i hope it looks good on em' and the OS does well!
