"HELP PLZ!! IconX tab keeps disappearing!"

As we all know, we can download DesktopX and IconX and install using our serial numbers. Updates can be had using Stardock Central. We are having difficulty in keeping the IconX "Tab" included within DesktopX Settings along with the Welcome "Tab", Desktop "Tab", and Preferences "Tab". The difficulty starts when we update using Stardock Central. After a while one becomes exhausted in uninstalling and reinstalling in attempt to get this little guy (IconX "Tab") to join the others. Should we just give up, or is there a trick to keeping all of this flowing correctly with Stardock Central Updates?

Should we just give up

No retreat. No surrender.

Do you have these installed in the default paths or did you pick your own folders?

hmm.... when you update thru SDC, do you still have stuff running?
I've run into update probs before because of it. So now when I decide to update, I unload everything 1st (or at the very least to prog I'm updating). In your case maybe unloading both IconX & DesktopX whenever you update one or the other?

When you uninstall/reinstall it a clean reinstall - remove all traces 1st?

Yes.

Yes, including the register. Got to get some sleep now (12:45) and will do a complete cleaning tomorrow and reinstall DX3 and then IconX...closing both for any updates. I will post tomorrow afterwards one way or the other on the outcome. Thanks for responding!

Well Sir Bichur, it is clear that after updating via SDC the IconX "Tab" has decided to leave the group! I downloaded DesktopX, installed using the serial number and rebooted. I then downloaded IconX, installed using the serial number and rebooted. In both the DesktopX Builder - Settings and DesktopX - Settings the IconX "Tab" appeared. I did as you recommended and closed DesktopX; IconX of course followed on its own. I downloaded via SDC DesktopX updates and rebooted. IconX "Tab" did not appear within DesktopX Builder - Settings, nor DesktopX - Settings. I closed out DesktopX and downloaded via SDC IconX updates and rebooted. Here again, the IconX "Tab" did not appear within DesktopX Builder - Settings, nor DesktopX - Settings. I suppose there is no big deal since I can use the IconX by itself. But, if the IconX "Tab" is suppose to continue being placed within DesktopX Builder - Settings and DesktopX - Settings after updating via SDC, then it should do so...yes(?)

On supposition, I would tend to agree. I'm not at home, so I can't play with variables at the moment. When I get home I will try running mine with different options. I'm also curious as to whether mine still has a tab since I tend to hide my icons and create different animated widgets to open the desktop folder. That's probably gonna take me a while since I'm slow and I will have to remember the different places and programs that let me hide them. Drove me nuts once trying to get them to show since I had both DesktopX and Display setting set not to show and I forgot about the display setting until somebody mentioned it in a post.

Since you haven't given up on it yet, that fire's still smoldering - stay vigilent. I'm pretty sure someone will come along and have a decent answer. Once I get a chance to play with mine I'm post on it.

In the meantime I have 2 suggestions: 1) Edit your title (if possible to include something like "HELP!!!!" & 2) {which you may have already done} email - [email protected] .

I know the feeling.

I just E-Mailed Stardock a transcript. Not sure what you are saying in 1). No rush, not life-threatening, but should work; had to pay for it.

When I first saw the title on the forum page, my 1st thought was: "What? it doesn't matter. Must be new.". Then I saw the names and went: "Barnacles. They still having trouble?".

Your title is more of a question than a request for help. I was just thinking if your post started more like: "HELP PLZ!! IconX tab keeps disappearing!" then maybe some of the more proficient people out there perusing & looking for signs of 'help needed' might get here quicker.

O.K.,....but it is too late to change the title now...yes? I should post a new? The folks at WC sometimes get "excited" if you post duplicate, or post in a spot you think is correct, but not correct to their standards. Advise.

Awright smart peoples... work a solution please. These guys been having trouble with this for quite a while (this is not the 1st post).

I have this problem as well. Sorry I don't have any answers to offer you.

The only way I can use IconX is via the right-click menu of DX Builder, but even that only shows up if I shut down DX, start IconX first, then re-load DX. Nothing I can't live with since I rarely reboot and that's the only time I have to do it but a bit annoying.

Anybody have an answer or suggestion yet?

Sorry Dogs o' Fire - had some issues come up yesterday and didn't get a chance when I got home.
I'm looking at it but It will take me a while - just noticed I have no tab (you guys sneak over and take mine ?)
Also found out changing from builder and back is easier - man, I gotta start paying more attention.
Have also noticed IconX systray icon no longer appears to be absorbed by DTX.

ya know, me starting to thinks maybe it's not supposed to be there anymore. IX it appears has become separated from DTX except in Builder. right now i'm running DTX 3.10.042 & IX 1.10.002 both dated 7-19-05

Also haven't tried a run on startup yet.

Gonna take some time to puzzle.

Good to hear from you! I don't understand why these monitors from WC who also work at Stardock (at least one I believe) are not responding. The crux of the problem is that once updates have been downloaded using SDC that is when the problem starts; unless of course "it" (The Tab) is not suppose to be included any longer. No response from Stardock Support as of yet. Seems as though something is eating this IconX tab! (hehehe

Hey. I've read other posts where it is mentioned that they are now separate.
Maybe it is supposed to not be there anymore.
Still haven't run at startup yet = but the systray icon doesn't disappear anymore either - at least for me.
How about you? do you get both icons in the systray?

I did a clean install of SDC 2.10.343, then installed WB, IP, DX, IconX, and ObjectDock Plus - all the most recent official release versions.

If I loaded DX by itself, there was no IconX tab in the settings (config) panel, and no access via DX builder systray icon.

If I loaded IconX, there was still no tab for IconX in the DX panel, but there was an IconX systray icon, as well as access to IconX config panel via the DX Builder systray icon menu.

It appears that Stardock has gone with some additional functions in the DX Builder systray icon, rather than tabs in the Settings (config) panel - which seems to make sense, based on the need to access IconX config only when loading or when it is loaded.

I am sure we will hear from Stardock in one of the posts at some point.

Yesterday, I posted a comment on the Support Forum along these lines, which seems to have been removed. My query was quite simply : under the new regime is it possible to have IconX load with SmartStartup rather than put it in my start up group, which I have done? It does work, but seems to be slower to implement.

Sorry so late! Yes, Sir Bichur, I do have the IconX in the tray as well, but only if I have engaged that.
, but only if I have engaged that.

I see that. Can't find an option to run at startup. Maybe they'll add it again.

Mebion - I don't know, I can't even find smartstartup - how do i get to it? barring that, how do I add to startup group (drag and drop / add a shorcut? / ?)

Here's hoping Corky O.

Tools/Settings/General

I hope there is a fix soon.

I've even resorted to using Konfabulator

Smart startup = sdmcp.exe
C?C ...

That's for the smart startup, yes? The line you quoted was for looking for the option to run at start for IconX.
But at least now I know where to find the smart up & and thanks to Corky O I can ID it.
(Now if only he hada also told me how to add it to startup )

ahhh yes, I quoted the wrong sentence....sorry

'tis quite alright. .. but if you feel an urge for Karmic Reconcilliation.. ... where's the frizzlefrazzin run on startup for IconX?
