Redundant customization

I've just checked the gallery, (left column of home page), and I think it wants thinning out somewhat.
Examples of this are:

WebBlinds uploads - 1 last year, 0 this year.
PocketBlinds - 0 this year.
Kewlpad - 3 last year, 1 this year.
ICQ+ - 2 last year, o this year.
There are others including Kapsules, not much interest there also.

Your opinions ?

I agree. I think it's time to get rid of some of these entries and make way for new one's.

Agreed. They do take up unnecessary gallery space that could be used for more current apps.

You guys should know by now...WC doesn't get rid of anything. They just hide it from the main page, which all of the programs above already are....'cept for Kapsules, which just got put up not too long ago.

Those galleries are hidden from the main site, what would be the point to get rid of them?

I do wish though that it was implemented again to where you could choose which categories you saw displayed. It was a feature once, but hasn't been put back into place. Although I thought it was mentioned at one time it would be back.

My opinion? We need a Trillian section...

The old saying "Out of sight, out of mind"? If we could customize this list on a per-viewer basis, those who have an intrest in the less popular apps., would have them displayed. Then someone that uses Kewlpad or the others would more likely keep the activity level higher. As it is, these catagories remain hidden and forgotten. As for the programs mentioned, I don't use any of them, but I do use Firefox and without it being on the main list, I tend to forget that there are skins for my favorite browser here.

I'm pretty sure that it has been mentioned before that if a section regains popularity, it can be moved back into the main list. That is a good reason for the sections to remain here. Who knows what could happen in the future.

So if you have a favourite section, make skins for it and submit them. I know I have a favourite application that is no longer on the main page. I need to start skinning it again (as do others ).

How about an animated avatar section? Not this big, of course. Not gonna happen, I know, but it would be cool.

I think Brad has made it clear why Trillian has not gotten it's own section yet.

I also have to agree with the other post that it would be nice to choose which galleries to display.

I don't know about an avatar section, but I do think it's odd that a site that is geared towards visuals doesn't support animated GIFs for avatars. And mind you, I don't even have one for myself, but I think they should be supported.

I also think that avatars should be used in skin comments. You tend to associate people with their avatars and you lose that in the skin comments.

Of course, there should be an option to disable these for low bandwidth users and/or people who just don't like them.

You know, like virtually every other site?

Tarkus, they have a ways to go to get it working all the time, let alone thinking much past that at the moment I think

Point taken, Boss. I just wish they'd license some popular forum software and quit trying to reinvent the wheel. This forum probably has more problems, yet less features, than any other forum I use. The users keep me coming back, though.
