The Japanese are still going to slaughter 700+ whales this year.  "Scientific research"....they must think the rest of the world is mentally retarded.....this is the sort of "scientific research" that McDonalds does to potatoes by creating 'fries with that'.

And we dick-head Aussies still let them refuel their killing machines in our ports...and much of the killing goes on in Australian territorial waters...[Antarctica] ....

I don't know why we don't impound their ships like we do with the Indonesian fishing boats.....maybe it's because we're wimps...or maybe it's because whales aren't fish....

OMG! That is horrible. Is there anything we can do about it? What are they researching now? I don't even want to know what they are actually doing to them. I won't be able to sleep. This is a sick world. And money is the name of the game. It must bring in more money than they can pass up. But, please don't call all Aussies dick -heads. One of the best friends I have ever had is from Aussie Land. I don't think you are one either. And where is Steve the Crock Hunter. I would think he would be involved in trying to stop it, even though they aren't reptiles.

To translate...what the Japs call 'scientific research' the rest of the civilised world calls 'farming'...or 'hunting for food'.

Trick is...they don't NEED whale meat....but, like killing minks for coats or hunting foxes for 'sport' they do it for its commercial benefit.

Bichur ...unfortunately the chances are that Japan will simply ignore the vote...and probably just leave the 'association' and do their own thing...regardless of public opinion.

IF their hip-pocket can be hurt through trade sanctions....or AT LEAST denying them their refuelling in Australia then maybe it'd be more than a bunch of talking heads going 'tut-tut, how horrid' and putting their collective hands up as a show of displeasure.

That'll do something less than ZERO without real definitive action.  Nothing short of scuttling the whaling fleet will see our Global Community progress any further from the 19th century barbarism of Specie decimation we've all apparently NOT learned from.

Thank you clwoods - I signed the petition in my girlfriend's name because she absolutely loves horses. Everywhere you look in our house you will see horses. My hard drive is full of horse pictures. So anyhow - again thank you.

Me too. I don't mean to be ugly about other countries, but they have some very bizarre tastes in meat in the Orient. They ate those monkeys and got that horrible epidemic of disease from it. They also boil cats alive and skin them alive so they can have fresh meat at the restraunts. Simular to ordering fresh lobster. They keep the cats in cages till they need them to fill an order. May God strike me dead if I were to ever think that my tastebuds should be gratified by killing a cat or whale or horse for eating. These are not described in the bible as one of the animals we are to eat. America needs to stop killing the horses and stop supporting these countries that have no regard for life. There are enough poor animals in horrid conditions being slaughtered for food. It will make ya sick.

You got me there. But I know the bible. I am going by old testament from Leviticus and Dueteronomy. I know that Jesus changed the laws made in the old testament when he was on earth. But, my point is, that people are so self centered and greedy to satisfy themselves, that they do not care what kind of suffering they cause in order to do it. To me it is immoral and terrible. God also put us in charge of taking care of the animals. I think the disesase that they got for eating the monkeys was a message that that is not the right thing to do. Common sense and love for others should tell them that eating something that is only seperated from us one DNA structure is wrong. Whales are one of the smartest creatures on earth. Cats should not be boiled and skinned alive nor Horses throats slit while they hang upside down alive so some one can satisfy their tastebuds. Just because something is deemed okay, does that mean our brains should fall out of our heads nor common sense and descencey fly out the window. The cows, pigs and chickens are already being tortured so we can eat. Must we keep on adding more animals to the suffering? We are a disposable world. What is not needed anymore for work or gain is tossed aside, tortured, neglected, forgotten, or inhumanely killed that we may yet again get something out of it. I am sure God did not intend for us to do that no matter what is considered clean or unclean food.

No, I wish I was. My chemical make up does not do well on a vegetarian diet. I have tried several times through out my life. As I grow older though it is getting harder and harder for me to eat meat. I do not eat chicken anymore. I can't even eat the fish I catch because I saw them alive. Last time I tried to eat the large mouth bass I caught, I threw up. My neighbor raises goats for food, and I can not eat those either. I see them running around everyday. The babies are so cute. He brings fresh meat to us on occasion, but my husband is the only one that eats it. I only eat eggs from free roaming hens, or my neighbors. He has chickens too. I love their eggs. They have almost an acre of freedom. The yolk is orange, not the sickly yellow that comes from the poor chickens kept packed in cages so tight they can't even move. You may laugh, but that is me, and I make no appologies. I like who I am. And being or not being a vegetarian has nothing to do with treating all living things with respect.

Sorry CLwoods - I'm one of those guys that likes to go hunting. I have a killer instinct. I love beef, pork, chicken. I can't stand seafood though - the smell is disgusting. So I guess I could care less how my food gets killed.

I hear and understand all this talk of animal slaughter and I sympathize but I can't justify doing something about that when people are slaughtered and oppressed by their own neighbours and country men... in places like Rwanda, Nicaragua, and even in our own backyards! There are people living in the streets and alleyways, whom we just casually walk by without giving them a second thought. Isn't it a bit hypocritical to be striving for animals before we do something for our fellow man?
If you know your Bible then you know that your primary call is to God, then to your neighbour, everything should come from that, including the stewardship of the environment and care of the earth -that's what the Torah says, let alone the Gospels.
I can't in good consciense fight to save animals before helping out the person on the street who begs to be fed and sleeps on a bench in the street in winter.

I mention it because I've probably been one of the worst offenders.
