Found this little guy crawling around the floor by my bed. Very non-aggressive. Probably a Rat Snake. Non-venomous.

here in australia we don't have harmless snakes, most are quite venomous and you just wouldn't wanna pick one up like that here. Glad it was you and not me

was bitten by a venomous spider some years ago, so i don't like spiders and snakes. think there's a song there somewhere

nice. care to trade for some unwanted copperheads? Will even throw a gross of wood scorpions (them little buggers hurt! - finally got nailed saturday after 5 yrs in the boonies).
I could use some them around here.

We have quite a few venomous snakes here in Texas as well and, as a result, tend to know the difference. There is the occasional dumb ass though.

Nice pictures. Snakes are interesting creatures. I have a Corn snake and a Bull snake myself.

On a differnt note I like messing around with scorpions (not the deadly ones...) - I used to have quite a few pet Emperor scorpions.

BTW...the Inland Taipan only has 46cc of venom  but the toxicity is 0.01ml/Kg.... in other words, 1 milking is enough for about 50 average blokes to snuff it...

Snakes are illegal in Hawaii.  You get in trouble if you bring one.

GM: Actually, there is one species of snake in Hawaii... Called the 'worm snake,' its totally blind (no eyes) and about the size of an earthworm...

I ran across a few during my excursion there...

Ooh, gosh, I hate snakes... there was one in our living room a few years ago. Crawling atop the fire place. My father pulled his hat off it and boom, there it was. Let's just say he didn't have a pleasant ending.

There are a few poisonous snakes here in Florida. I know a fella who got struck on the arm by a 6-7' diamondback. He was wearing a hunting jacket at the time so he didn't get any venom, but the strike was so hard it broke his arm (both bones) The last decade or so we've had problems with collectors and the non-domestic Boas and other assorted escapees and throw aways. A couple years ago there was a local news story about a 20 ft long Python which Animal Control had to remove from under a house. People in the neighborhood had been complaining about missing dogs and cats.

We have a similiar problem with exotic fish. Some of the lakes in South Florida have been known to produce pirahna.
