Why doesn't WinCustomize have Section X?

A FAQ answered

Nearly every day we receive emails from users asking why we don't have a section for a given program.  The answer is usually fairly straight forward (often depressingly straight forward):  The people who make program X don't respond to emails from us.

To have a gallery on WinCustomize.com the following criteria have to be met:

(1) The program that uses the content has to be reasonably popular

(2) The people who make the program have to be willing to link to their gallery in a way that will send users here.

(3) The people who make the program whose content we'd be hosting have to agree to help "seed" the gallery to get it going.

That's pretty much it.  So if you have a favorite program whose skins you wish we had, contact the authors and ask them to contact us about getting a gallery up for them.  WinCustomize.com has 2.1 MILLION registered users and monthly traffic that exceeds 3 million unique visitors, it's a great way to get a program much greater visibility.  But in return, we need the program authors to send us traffic too.

You must me getting emails from Trillian users Brad. Don't see why they don't work with WC to get a section here.

I take it Cerulean Studios meets #2 and #3 criteria. I'm curious as to why they seem to be disinterested.

Okay, so Kona beat me to the punch, and with the same idea!

So, wait, we're getting an OSX section?

Sorry, I'll go now.

GSW: Apple is willing to link its lawyers to WinCustomize, if that counts . . .

And here was me thinking 'Section X' was an altogether new skinnable previously unheard of....and I was getting all 'eager'...

Make a "Section X" that generically permits skins for all the other random skin-schmacky there is on the net. Disobedient admins could be punished by assigning them to moderate the entries

Firefox's site must have a link to WC that I haven't seen and I see the Firefox section has been appropiately seeded.

Completely agree with that. There is what, 10 themes in the Fx catagory since it was opened 6 months ago? Whose bone head idea was it anyways for a Fx section? That is best left for Mozilla where those themes are updated regulary and can be gotten from the update system.

We need a section for IM programs like Trill and Miranda. Those programs are in need of some great skins, just look thru the DA galleries and see the lack of quality skins there lately.

To be fair AT1981 , there's no evidence to support a a Trillian section being successful .

Yes there is. Lots of prople ALWAYS speak up about adding a Trillian section when asked about what section should be added next.

There was a thread about 2 or 3 months back that asked about adding an IM section and over 200 responses were for it. I believe that generally is a positive sign that there is evidence.

Everytime a new section is announced, everyone always asks where is the trilly/IM section:

Yes. And Firefox has what .. a couple million downloads. How many skins do we have for it . 10?
Us asking for a Trillian section will not make a Trillian section successful. Skinners making and uploading skins like mad dogs will make it successful. It would suck if by some magic Brad decides to add a Trillian section and it only gets a dozen submissions.

There's a firefox section becase we had a poll asking people what section they wanted most and Firefox easily beat Trillian and you saw that it tanked. Which is why it's not displayed by default.

You can't really get a section going these days without the authors of the program helping too.

I'm sure if we had another poll that Trillian or some other IM program would come out on top.

And when you combine the IM programs that are skinable (MSN/Y!/Trillian/Miranda/Gaim) then you have what a couple of hundred million users. Of those I am betting 1-2% skin them, so that is 1-2 million people. Easily beats Firefox right now. I am also willing to bet that the IM section would take off and be popular. But we would never know unless we try.

There was also a thread a couple of months back polling about opening up an IM section and the overall response was yes, do it. I believe that there is a big enough demand for it.

As much as I'd like a lively healthy Trillian section: Trillian skinning is just about dead. Look at the devs webpage - there's maybe one skin a month, if even that. Look at the deviantart Trillian section. It's dead. Overall IM skinning I don't know about, but I vote against a Trillian section (yes I voted FOR one a while ago - I changed my mind).

Just add a Windowblinds -> Trillian skin converter to SkinStudio, that's good enough (I believe that was even in some announcement eons ago, but got dropped for some inexplicable reason?)

All Trillian has to do to have a section here is support it -- send a link to the section.

Alrighty every one, I plan to create an online petition at petitiononline.com to get trillian (AKA Cerulean Studios) to try and hear us out. Who is with me?

My Petition:

We, the artists and themers at Wincustomize.com wish to open a section that will host skins for your program, Trillian. This section will include skins for versions .74 to version 3.1 pro. In order to do this we must have your support, meaning a link from both Cerulean Studios home page and forums. We present to you these signatures.
Sincerely, The undersigned.

Please use screennames only along with email addresses.

The exact wording of it hasn't been decided on yet, so I need help. But the basic idea is there. Ideas, thoughts?
