You can use Icon Developer program which can be found on the "Software" tab at top of page.

There is also Axialis IconWorkshop, and Any-to-Icon which can be found by doing a google search.

In any case, you will need a program designed to take an image and create the various sized images contained in an ".ico" file.

I tried that, but my icon is all pixelated... not extremely bad, but I can se it. and I look at other icons such as standard LimeWire or PhotoShop CS2 icons and can't se this pixelation... how do I make them 'smooth' like those? in .ico format I mean. in .png they are smooth

Vector graphics. They are not pixilated. Try CorelDRAW Suite 12. There's a 30 day free trial you can download online to see if you like it. http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Home

Evanescence88,

You can also make your raster images large (500x500 pixels) to start with, then create your ".ico" images from that size.

Make sure your raster images look smooth to begin with, and that the file type supports transparency (.psd or .png is fine).

hmm... heres what I did, I made a 128*128 tranparent canvas in PS, and made my icon. I saved it as a .png, .jpg, and .bmp. I loaded it up in IconDeveloper and it looked pixelated...
