In a recent thread concerning some people's lack of computer security and viral infection, there were several free proggies mentioned, such as AVG & Zone Alarm to mention two. Thus I thought, why not set up a sort of software exchange where posters can inform others about cool, free, CLEAN (no adware-spyware) programs that will enhance the usability, security, or just plain coolness of your computer?

All you have to do is list the proggie and a link to it--or at least enough info so that one has a reasonable chance of finding it via Google. I'll leave the obvious suggestions to someone else and mention...

POWEROFF Poweroff is a little program that will shutdown, logoff, suspend, hibernate, lock, etc. your computer automatically. You can set it to do so at a specific time, daily, or weekly monthly. If you have it installed on other computers, you can control them remotely in the same manner. Check it out. It's a cool little program.

SequoiaView is one of the tools I install right after a new build.

It makes the best looking tree-map of a drive (sorry Stardock). Browse to the big folders, zoom in, add your custom colors..

One of my favorite programs is POPFile. It's a Naïve Bayesian email classification program. It doesn't just help you filter spam, but you can have it classify mail to any number of "buckets" of your choosing. It's easy to train, and is very accurate within a short period of time. It works with any email program on virtually every platform, and has a very cool html interface.

O.k., here's one that provides a good source of info on your rig.
Belarc Advisor
It examines your computer and can tell you among other things what version of windows, what type of drives and/or drivers (video, audio, etc.), what software licenses you have, bios and board versions and lots of other stuff. Very handy when you're trying to find out what's installed on a friends computer to help solve a problem that they may be having.
