I wonder how people can be egotistical. I'm such a perfectionist, I can never allow a compliment to enter in cuz I know i could be better.
I always thought I didn't have an ego. Turns out everyone does. Mine's just mute. She doesn't talk. She smiled today though when Mr. Wright said I was a good writer. Then I let the compliment slide. And she goes back into her little niche.
I'm humble. Some of you guys come off as a little too big for your britches. I don't like it. Its nice to know your good at things, but don't let your ego scream and yell. Pride is like cancer. It eats away at you. Your wings of wax will melt eventually and down you will tumble.

There is nothing wrong with being proud of your talents and abilities nor in accepting sincere compliments. Crowing about them is another story.

Hehe...this article is about people tooting their own horn, then you make a condescending remark about what you are "quite aware of".  I was assuming that he was stating the source for people who did not know.  But, you came back with a defensive remark instead of discussing the source instead.

One thing that most people learn as they get older is that people perceive what other people say quite differently.  What you see as "gloating" may just be somebody taking pride in their accomplishments. 

The ironic thing that I find with this article is that you are actually putting yourself above other people because you see yourself as "humble" whereas other people you see as "too big for their britches". By writing this article, you have proved that you really aren't that humble at all.  

Why does hearing about other people's accomplishments bother you so much?  Why do you have a problem with people having pride in what they do?

The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.  No matter what, there will be people who know more than you do, and there will be people who can do things better.  There is nothing wrong with acknowledging that.  However, there is also nothing wrong with being proud of what you do know and what you can do.

I think that we should be proud of what we are good at. But at the same time we shouldn't brag about it. So who cares if you are good at something. You know that you are, so why does everyone else? Yeah....I know that I'm good at some things, but you don't see me going around to everyone I know and telling them about it and rubbing it in their face. I'm not saying I've never done that in my life, b/c maybe I have and I just didn't notice. But I don't think I really go bragging.

Karma girl~ Youve caught me at a bad time. You know why I have such a hard time dealing with other peoples accomplishments, because I hate that i don't measure up to Zoo and Beebes' acomplishments, I can't help feeling stupid around them even though they don't mean to.I don't want to hear about because half the time I don't fucking like myself, and I have no self esteem sometimes. And I'm sorry that when other people brag, or make me feel stupid like Shaun does, unintentionally, I get defensive. So there are you happy?

Sorry, I forgot that you are a high schooler.  And, why would you care what I, or anyone else thought?  Most of these people don't have a clue of who you are, and you don't know them.  Why take it all so seriously? And, why do you think that Shaun was making you feel stupid?  He was giving credit to your quote.  That enforces knowledge that you have- it doesn't show that anyone is stupid.  Try looking at things with a lighter view.  You might see that they are much different.

I didn't really think about it like that. Like I said earlier you caught me at a bad time. But that makes sense.

I used to think that i didn't care. But i keep finding out that I do care. Even though I know its pointless.

No healthy, sane person is happy about someone else's unhappiness. One of the keys to gaining more self-esteem and knowledge is to hang out with people who you feel know more than you do, are better at something, whatever. That's how we learn.

Don't be so down on yourself. I've read your stuff and know you aren't stupid so stop thinking you are. If someone says something about a topic you don't know a lot about, ask questions. That will make you seem more interested and intelligent.

Smart people ask questions not lash out because they feel inferior. The more questions you ask, the smarter you appear and as a side benefit, the more informed you become. Cool, huh?

You're young still, and a lot of what you're feeling is the same angst most of us old farts felt when we were your age. Trust me, it's nothing new and it isn't permanent. We've all been through it at some point.

This is where your wrong. I want to hear it, because I want to better myself. I don't want to be just another teenager. I want to matter, I guess thats the whole problem. Great, now i'm confusing myself.
