Our Rights Are Going Down For The Third Time

RealID Card legislation has been attached to emergency military spending bills to
ensure its passage. How soon does everyone think this system will be
abused either by the government or by thieves ?

Due to the completely machine-readable/automatic nature of the thing -- you might
not even know you're giving your information away.

From the article:
"Starting three years from now, if you live or work in the United States,
you'll need a federally approved ID card to travel on an airplane, open a
bank account, collect Social Security payments, or take advantage of
nearly any government service. Practically speaking, your driver's
license likely will have to be reissued to meet federal standards.

Aren't we the "good guys"?

No, our government is NOT the "good guys". I, and many others, can attest to that.

I mean "We" as in you and me are the people who the government would be monitoring.

I do hear you when you say the Fed is overstepping here on this,
but this is bound to happen, whether it happens in 2 years or 20.

I agree that it's "bound to happen" because the majority of the people in this country are too stupid to realize that their rights are being eroded away little by little because they think things like "it's for security" and "we're the good guys".

Get real. By the time some people finally realize that their rights are being taken from them right before their eyes they will no longer have the right to speak out against it.

If Immigration did their jobs with regard to foreign nationals entering this country the whole thing would be moot.

IF the national ID card would work to deter terrorists, I would be 100% FOR it. But, you see, it won't. Not unless we have random intercity road checks of civilians, and random searches and seizures without a warrant...in short, the only way we can insure safety from terrorists is to declare martial law and effectively discard the constitution. Better documents will only mean better FORGERS of those documents; you can rest assured that terrorists will monitor checkpoints and run "test" agents through to discover the flaws...remember, this is their PROFESSION. The ONLY people that a national ID stands to hurt are the honest American citizens.

THAT is why I am opposed to the ID. It doesn't solve ANY problems, and in fact, will create a more totalitarian state. There are other reasons, but I can't go into those now.
