That is sad, truly sad. of course, if you've read any of my "they longed to be president" articles (Which I will eventually continue, btw), you know that I am well versed in third party politics throughout the years.

But anyway....even if the average American is ignorant of late 19th-early 20th century populism, they SHOULD be aware of his involvement in one of the most infamous trials in American history...but I digress.

I haven't read the book, btw...but I HAVE placed it on my "to read" list...thanks for the referral...from one history buff to another.

Sure. The check is in the mail. Anyway, I know much about his exploits and his claims to fame, and am well-versed in many things presidential. But I've met few people who could tell me that. Then again, I've met few people who could tell me any president besides Washington, Lincoln, and other famous ones like Roosevelt, plus ones during their lifetime.

I have only read a small portion so far, but I've heard some pretty good things about it. And I have seen your "They Longed to Be President" series. It is good. Out of curiosity, have you seen my "Presidential Review" series?

They're easy to amuse.

No, they just have as little interest in history as humanly possible (well, most of them).

Yes, I have. Very well put together, even if I don't agree with all of your analysis (I think we differ, for instance, on our position on Lincoln)...but that's just the nature of being historians, right? (lol). The two sets are complementary, as I cover the third party politics (the "also rans"); maybe we should put together a coffee table book? lol.
