Porn at Work

The supreme court in Norway has decided in favor of two employees of a company who were fired for looking at porn while at work. That is, they were at work. They looked at porn. They were fired. They sued the company. They won.

Unless they work for a porn studio, I'm inclined to say that maybe the court is wrong on this one. Other than a porn studio, I don't see what profession could have "watching porn" as a suitable thing to do on the job. I don't get it.

In other news, I will be seeking a position teaching English in Norway. Anyone know of any openings, let me know.

The argument I can see would be that using company time to look at porn is no more or less wrong than using company time to, say, browse non-work-related blogs. Companies may block their employees from accessing popular non-work-related websites, but I haven't heard of anybody being fired for bidding on eBay when they should have been working.

You don't hear about it, but I think it is completely within my company's rights to fire me if I'm bidding on Dukes of Hazzard collectors' plates when I should be working.

Damn skippy! If it were "Simpsons" collector plates, it would be another story.

But, to be fair, at least you could hide under the excuse that you were buying a present for the boss (using that excuse for looking at porn presents a whole other laundry list of terminable offenses!)

Hmm...Don't nudist colonies tend to be replete with old people who jiggle and shake and who I assume have no interest in learning English, or in anything really other than basking in how great it is to jiggle and shake?

I have always laughed at people who whined about how management are a bunch of thieves, as they pilfer company property for use at their homes. I can't believe how often I'm playing an online game and someone jokes to everyone about how they'll be in trouble with the boss if they get caught playing at work.

Not only has employee theft become acceptable, it seems to be either a joke, or something to brag about.

I say FIRE 'EM ALL, there are plenty of people willing to take those jobs!!
