Atmosphere of Hate Building on JU

We all need to step back, take a deep breath and move on...

Wow, I mean... WOW...

We've reached a level of hatred and animosity that I think surpasses even what we had during the elections last fall. It seems like the past few days have been completely dominated by spite and venom filled posts where everyone is attacking everyone else. From my own article on JU Libs, to the rash of responses to Myrrs Sad Conservatives article, the anger and animosity is just building and building. It seems like little else is being discussed here at the moment, we're all either too busy tossing insults at one another, or hiding under a rock until the whole thing blows over.

I think we've reached a point where we all need to sit down and think about what we're doing here. If all we're doing is posting inflamatory articles meant to piss off people who oppose our views, or if we're just out to flat-out insult others, maybe it's time to take a break. We're all starting to take this place a tad bit too seriously.

I'm no angel, I've been slugging it out the past few days like a bunch of others, but I'm at least willing to admit my error. I'm shifting my focus here on JU for the near future... I'm moving back to writing about life, technology, humor... the lighter things in life and am going to let the politics and religion articles go. There's little point since the conservatives will always hate the liberals, the liberals will always hate the conservatives and no one is going to be convinced of anything they don't already believe in. Trying to argue about it just makes everyone mad.

It's back to blogging for fun for me... I suggest everyone else gives it a shot too!

Excellent point Zoomba, hope people listen.

Amen, Zoomba.

But I will say this...I don't *hate* anyone because they don't share my political views or any other views I have about religion, education, economics, or any other topic for that matter. That's what makes life interesting, I think...and the more diverse, the merrier, I say.

I've been staying away from the inflammatory headlines lately. You can find yourself argueing in a futile way for days if you let yourself get sucked in. When I first started on JU as an unregistered user debating was what I did most of. Now that I have my own blog I've move away from that. The funny thing is a lot of the people I'd strongly disagreed with politically in my pre-citizen days are some of coolest people on here.

I dont let the people here get to me.  I know I write some inflamatory things, and that is my way of letting off steam.  Then of course, the people here are allowed to flame me or agree with me.  But at the end of the day, I still who I am.

I love a good argument, but I am not going to let anyone get under my skin that way.  Anon users I mostly leave alone, unless they are just trolling.  Then I delete their posts.  But registered users at JU I leave their posts alone.  They sometimes need to blow off steam as well.

point taken zoomba... as a much chastized {friends and family} modman backs off some, waiting for the smoke to clear .

Have the articles been about hate? I just thought we were having fun, poking a little fun at each other. There are a couple of bloggers here who I simply don't acknowledge their existence, but I even with my "Peace Through Superior Firepower" Article, I can't think of anyone I just plain hate.

Does anyone really go so far with anyone else's articles that it could conjur up actual hate?

There are zillions or articles about that have nothing to do with politics or hate.

Really?  Where?

The flame wars are entertaining for a while, I've read some particularly dastardly comments as of late, but you're right, they tend to become tiresome and overshadow other blogs.
As LW has said earlier, this is nothing more than the ebb and flow of JU, 6 months from now another topic or individual will draw the ire of many JU faithful, just sit back and enjoy the fireworks..........

I used to get worked up about some of the posts i read on JU. I came to the conclusion that for the most part, you can't change the opposition's opinion no matter how hard you try if they aren't receptive to it. I look at JU more like a buffet of info rather than trying to change anyone's mind. I pick and choose what posts i agree with, and those i don't. Even if i think the author is a freakin lunatic, (not singling anyone out here) i just don't feel it's worth it to go to war with them. I will make my points and leave it at that. Simple!

My opinions on the subject of some of the behavior going on when his stuff happens is well known to those who have been here for a while. So there's no point re-hashing that old chestnut.

I guess it's up to us as individuals to keep the anger in check. Some of us need to take ownership in that department.

That's my two pesos!

Living with a forced sunny disposition while avoiding uncomfortable topics is akin to one having their head in the sand. Let's discuss.

Yep in a few days this will blow over and people will have something new to complain about.
