I think i have a problem

It's nothing really big but it didnt happen before.

It seems that everytime i post an article it doesnt show up on the forums, but when i get back to my blog, i find comments. But when i go back to the forums, my article is still not there.

Then there's comments. You know how there's a little enveloppe before each article title? And when you've read the article the enveloppe appears open? And when there's a new comment there's a little blue sheet coming out of the enveloppe? Well on every articles that i've commented on the blue sheet is there even thought there are no new comments.

And sometimes when i check people's sites and i comment on one of their articles, the said article should come up on the forums page right? Well it seems i'm stuck with the same page than this morning, and it's nearly 5.00 pm. :(

So i'm a bit frustrated. JU used to be so good, what's going on?

I thought i'd wait before writing this, but it's been a bit longer than a week that it's been like that. Is it just me or are we all facing the same problems?

I know some of you said the page wouldnt come up at all a couple of days ago. I was fine though. So i'm not sure if there's someting wrong here, are if all of us are havin little troubles like that.

JU's been very buggy lately.

Others are having problems getting their articles to show up in the forums, too. (I actually had the opposite problem. I wanted one not to be in the forums but it ended up there anyway!)

Sorry I don't have a solution. Maybe you could write an admin?

I have had a few problems as well IG. I have one article I really wanted to show up in the forums, so I deleted and reposted 3 times on different days. Never showed up once.

I know that a lot of it is attributed to server issues they had with here and Wincustomize. I also realize that WC is a lot higher priority, generates some revenue (mostly to pay for itself) and acts as a frontend advertisement for Stardock Products. So sure, it gets higher priority. However, if Brad et al want JoeUser to be taken seriously as a blogging site, they really need to focus on these issues or folks will wander away.

The sad thing is, in these days of world wide marketability, we could all leave in frustration, JoeUser become a ghost town, then once they fix things, it could repopulate and go on as if we'd never been here. They'd just start a subscription version at that point and there'd have been no negative fiscal impact. Any loss (say through a few customers pulling out of other StarDock products) would have been offset by the reduced expenses from the site having become a ghost town. In fact, with those offsets and considering Brad once said it costs about $50,000 a year to run this place, it would probably be more profitable if the place did die for a while.

You know what? Forget I wrote this.

That was quite the uplifting thought Gene. True as well.

My articles are hit and miss on getting into the forums...which is frustrating, but...meh...it's not like I'm writing ground-breaking stuff that MUST reach the masses...hahhaa

Hope things start working better for you, islandgurl...

Thank you guys, just wanted to check if it was just me. I'm a bit reassured.

But not about the fact that they're doing this on purpose so that once they fix it they say we all have to subscribe if we want to keep going *sniff*

Hehe, me neither actually!

BlueDev, Gene Nash and Texas Wahine, lets just hope things return to normal.

Yes, I'm a dependable ray of sunshine in a gloomy world, no?

Eeek. I didn't mean they were doing this on purpose, just that if everyone left because it wasn't fixed it wouldn't matter.

Nah, they are going to add a subscription level to the service eventually, anyway. The free JU will be the same, the subscribers will get extra features such as picture storage.

If Stardock really wanted to shut the place down for a while they wouldn't resort to Machiavellian schemes to annoy us, they'd just do it.

Um, forget I wrote that, too.

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy....

Gene Nash! Thanks for the note *sigh of relief* But maybe you should just hush down those thoughts, might give some ideas to the admins, sshhhhh

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey...

I've got the EXACT same problems island gurl, but I can't complain since nobody reads one letter I type. But no, you aren't alone.

I've been trying to comment on blogs and it's just not happening. I've tried commenting on your blogs recently, (since the Monday) and it's been very sloooooow!

I have to keep shutting down JU and logging on again. Aw well.....

Wouldn't forced "time outs" would help conserve bandwidth? I often leave JU open but minimized on my desktop while doing other things, and Im sure lots of us do the same.

I used to do this a lot too LW. And now I've started closing it and re-opening when I'm ready to read and stuff. Good suggestion though, very logical!

Also, just to note, there is some caching and secondary systems where all the data is not current.

Example.  We are working on a new Article System where the articles are being copied to a second database.  This second database will be smaller and faster than our Primary database, which holds everything.  Not all systems are using this new article database yet.  The forums are using it, but the main JoeUser site is not yet.  So there is delay time for an article to show up on the forums.  When posting an article to your blog it gets written to our primary database.  We have a job scheduled to sync the new/updated articles to our new article database system which runs once every thirty minutes.  So this could be part of the issue.

Also, the forum code caches much of its data so some things may not update right away.  Cached data usually refreshes itself every 1-3 minutes.

So these could be some reasons for the inconsistant data that you are seeing (or not seeing).  We still have much to do and we will get there!

Personally I appreciate your efforts T-Man, Punjabi and the rest. I really do enjoy blogging here, and would hate to see technical issues adversely affect the community that has developed.
