Fundamentalists taking the

I will start this rant by saying that I enjoy most of the changes associated with the 1.2 update with one noticable exception:

THE FUNDAMENTALISTS ARE A TERRIBLE CHANGE...TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE AWFUL DREADFUL!!! PERHAPS THE WORST IDEA EVER FOR GALCIV!

I just needed to get that off my chest...IMHO the above statement is true because:

1)I have played Galciv 6 times since the 1.2 update.
2)In three of those 6 games I have had to deal with the fundamentalists.
3)Nothing I apparently do has any affect on this happening (that I can see); each time I had high morale empire-wide(80 or higher), I always invest heavily in influence/cultural resist projects and while I was in the middle of a war on one occasion I was winning big time.
4)For such an epic setback to occur in a game (and lets face it having 4 worlds including your capital Sol turning in the middle of a war defines "setback")it appears that this event can only happen to you (no AI empires were harmed by the inclusion of this event!).

While Galciv has included events that can set a player back in the game, none IMHO come close to this in terms of scope (numerous planets flipping), cost (in my worst case scenario I had to declare a truce with the empire I was beating then spent wads of credits and time defeating the fundamentalists who quickly acquired death knights and made things VERY difficult). I just feel that with a 50% rate of happening in my games this cannot be considered a "random event" but is a certainty I have to expect-which means I have to expend time and effort to station invasion fleets around MY OWN WORLDS to deal with the problem should it arise.

I am REALLY hoping that this event (inspired by god knows what on the part of the developers) can be corrected or changed by someone, anyone...I would just hate to have to use the last update just to get rid of this annoyance.

This isn't a new change, the Fundamentalists have been in the game along time if not from the beginning. Play good if they are such a problem, they only hurt evil races.

INTERESTING! I have been playing Galciv "since the beginning" as well and never had these guys pop up-not even once.

If that's the case then I'm fascinated with their 50% appearance rate after I setup 1.2.

And I shouldn't be penalized for being evil-it's more fun than being a goody-goody

As an aside, the Fundamentalists DO affect the AI as well. Last game I played, evil was dominating the galaxy. Fundamentalists came along and took half the worlds of all 3 evil empires (myself included) which proceded to make them the most powerful AI. I made a comeback, but it was tough. I tell you what though, I did not allow the Fundamentalists peace until I had all my worlds back. ;)

You also get a lot of bonuses being evil through random events, etc. The Fundamentalists are kind of a way of balancing that out for "goody-goody" empires.

Ok, two points:

A) The Fundies have always been in the game and are often some of my worst enemies. However, if you keep your morale up most of your planets won't flip.

B) This event can be used to your advantage if the other evil civs are too powerful.

Technical note. The fundies have not always been part of the game. They were added in 1.035 or 1.4 somewhere around there if my memory is correct. They only affect evil civs. If you're neutral or good, they won't take any of your colonies. If you keep your morale way up, they take fewer planets. Sol seems to nearly always defect though so that's a different problem. It is a game changing event and a pain in the buttoxe. But one that can be dealt with.

Hint: The fundies are very abuseable in diplomacy and have a whole pile of cash to give you most of the time if you sell em a couple ships right when they come into existence. They actually make my job easier. Fewer alien Planets to kill. The Fundies can own 9/10 of the galaxy and as long as the main 5 are gone, you win.

Here's a fun little suggestion for a game or two of fun. Set all alien civs to pure evil and watch the sparks REALLY fly when the fundies come on the scene. HEHE.

I recently had a game that in one single turn, both The Fundamentists appeared flipping several Yor and Dregin planets and the Altarians had a revolution that formed a whole new empire. Needless to say the influence of the map really changed dramatically. Luckily I was good at the time. This kind stuff is what makes the game great. Never a dull moment. ;)

When they don't happen, I almost feel cheated.

One of my recent games, I was headed toward an Alliance victory. But the fundies came and took away the planets of my enemies. ALL OF THEM! (It may have been combined with some other event - I can't exactly remember now...) Can you say, "Military Conquest" without lifting a finger? LOL LOL LOL

Fundies tend only to attack evil civilizations who aren't very succesful or have low morale in my experiance. Is it possible for the fundies to resurface if their conquered?

What are these revolutions you speak of? Never heard of them..

I've only seen a revolution twice in 20+ games.

A message appears that says an opposing empire has undergone civil war/revolution (don't remember exact wording) and several planets have suceeded to form a new empire that now acts like a new minor. The last time I saw it, every Altarian planet joined the newly formed minor empire and Altarians disappeared as a major empire.
Wow. Anyone have any other info on that? Like how it could happen?

And what was the name of the new minor?
The revolution event can actually happen to any major. I looked through the posts and found the names that they can change to:

[1Terrorist] Calor
[2Terrorist] Venge
[3Terrorist] Dmer

[Race0] Terran Alliance
[Race1] Drengin Empire
[Race2] Altarian Republic
[Race3] Arcean Empire
[Race4] Torian Confederation
[Race5] Yor Collective

[Race0] Terran Confederacy
[Race1] Drengin Federation
[Race2] Delean Republic
[Race3] Free Arceans
[Race4] Torian Imperium
[Race5] Iconian Empire

[Race0] Terran Theocracy
[Race1] Drengin Peace Federation
[Race2] Holy Light
[Race3] Arcean Theocracy
[Race4] Torian Righteous
[Race5] Iconian Empire

End of quote

It's just a random event that happens...I don't think there is any way to prevent it or encourage it.

Oops...included the three terrorist minors that appear. Well...it's actually good info to have. If one of those minors appears, destroy it as soon as you can. They're bad.

I've seen it happen to every major race pretty much, although not that often with myself. My personal impression is that it used to happen more often in the older versions.
I haven't had it happen in AP, but I have seen a lot of revolts to the other empire tpyes. Usually it happens after I invade the last system though. :notsure:

Yeah...this still hasn't been fixed. It's weird to see the Drengin switch to goody-goodies and they don't even exist. ;p

I hope at some point an option to turn off completely random events that have such a dramatic effect. If not, they should at least be turned into logically triggered events instead of being completely random. That's just.. bogus and evil as it is. :P

They're not random events!!!

Yes they are, I may not have played as many games as other people but still I have never seen them in a game, if they weren't a random event they would be in every game that lasted long enough and I would have seen them.

They are certainly random events, I've played quite a few games where they never showed up.
They are a random event. Most of my games, they haven't been in. They are a fairly rare event. However, I've have them pop up under various circumstances... when evil dominated the universe, when evil was just 3 small worlds in a distant corner, when I was evil, when I was saintly.
