Fundamentalists taking the

Fundamentalists taking the

I will start this rant by saying that I enjoy most of the changes associated with the 1.2 update with one noticable exception:

THE FUNDAMENTALISTS ARE A TERRIBLE CHANGE...TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE AWFUL DREADFUL!!! PERHAPS THE WORST IDEA EVER FOR GALCIV!

I just needed to get that off my chest...IMHO the above statement is true because:

1)I have played Galciv 6 times since the 1.2 update.
2)In three of those 6 games I have had to deal with the fundamentalists.
3)Nothing I apparently do has any affect on this happening (that I can see); each time I had high morale empire-wide(80 or higher), I always invest heavily in influence/cultural resist projects and while I was in the middle of a war on one occasion I was winning big time.
4)For such an epic setback to occur in a game (and lets face it having 4 worlds including your capital Sol turning in the middle of a war defines "setback")it appears that this event can only happen to you (no AI empires were harmed by the inclusion of this event!).

While Galciv has included events that can set a player back in the game, none IMHO come close to this in terms of scope (numerous planets flipping), cost (in my worst case scenario I had to declare a truce with the empire I was beating then spent wads of credits and time defeating the fundamentalists who quickly acquired death knights and made things VERY difficult). I just feel that with a 50% rate of happening in my games this cannot be considered a "random event" but is a certainty I have to expect-which means I have to expend time and effort to station invasion fleets around MY OWN WORLDS to deal with the problem should it arise.

I am REALLY hoping that this event (inspired by god knows what on the part of the developers) can be corrected or changed by someone, anyone...I would just hate to have to use the last update just to get rid of this annoyance.

Bringing this one to the top again, as something needs to be done about this.

I just had the fundies appear, and all 4 of my systems rebelled... game over! All were at 100% morale, so that is not a factor.

At the very least, something needs to be programmed in to prevent your homeworld from rebelling. If this can happen randomly and cause an instant loss in a game that you have dominated from the start, then you might as well just have a coin toss animation at start of game, and if you guess right you get 60K. >:( >:(

Ouch!!!

Now that is nasty!

Conversely, people have won games when all of the evil empires' planets converted while playing good. Probably, all homeworlds should be immune to "fundy" conversion in order to make people earn their wins and losses.

The fundy event in my last game completely wiped out the Yor. Didn't help me much, though, since the Torians were about to take over their last 4 systems anyway, and it took me a long time to spread my "goodness" around the galaxy by conquering all the other majors. ;)

Seriously, I just view it as another incentive to get the morale boosting techs and improvements when you're playing evil. I agree that it shouldn't take out all the human player's systems.

What makes you think high morale helps?
Sometimes I set all AIs to evil and play as good. When this event comes up, the Fundies frequently take over the majority of the galaxy, even though Maso AIs tend to have 100% morale.
I like the Fundies myself - good trading partners.

In my experience it does. Whenever I get the fundimentalist event, its the planets with low morale that flip. By keeping my morale up I usually limit it to only 1 or 2 flips as opposed to half my empire if it happens at a bad time.

Doesn't seem to work that way. All my planets were at 100% morale, and all flipped. Interestingly, I was "chaotic-evil" and lost everything, the Drengin and Korx were "pure evil" and lost 1 or 2 planets each.

The I-league event is definitely affected by morale, but the fundies don't appear to be.

I don't play that many games as evil, but in the two that I have where I got hit by the fundy event, it was my systems with low morale that flipped. I haven't tried evil since upgrading to GC 1.2, so I suppose it's possible it changed.

Maybe the severity of the event is affected by the difficulty level ...
