Life after death.

Life after death.

Do you believe?

I don't want this to be a theological debate. I would prefer if it were kept very general and that we respect other's rights to their beliefs. That means no arguments. I am interested, though, in who believes in life after death. It doesn't have to be judaio Christianity. It can be reincarnation, ghosts, ...anything. Do you believe that there is something after our body passes on? You can just say "yes" or "no" or go into a bit of detail, but please stick to your own belief and don't criticize someone else's.

to be or not to be ... that is the imortal question........ i will say i believe there is something more ..they say we have only tapped 10 percent of the minds capabilities .. so maybe we will figure it out yet...

This quote is for those of us counting calories & carbs, measuring cholesterol, walking/running miles a day,
having plastic surgeries & liposuctions, taking vitamins and tons of other meds...etc....trying to take a few steps without breaking toes, legs, knees or worse... worrying about stress (?) All the things we do to keep our bodies healthy...

"Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved
body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting
"...holy cow...what a ride!"

"Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the light side of life.
[whistling]

If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle. That's the thing.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the right side of life,
[whistling]

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin.
Give the audience a grin.
Enjoy it. It's your last chance, anyhow.
So,...

Always look on the bright side of death,
[whistling]
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
[whistling]

Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke. It's true.
You'll see it's all a show.
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the right side of life.
[whistling]"

Yes, I do believe but only after when we're judged on the second coming of Jesus. One more thing, I don't beleive in reincarnation because why our population is still growing, we only have one life and you have to live it to the fullest.

I guess some (Marx) believe that a hope for an afterlife is what some use for a crutch to get through this life. Mine is no such belief, although I would rather have a crutch than to fall down. Just dead would be fine with me and very peaceful.

My belief in an afterlife is in direct relation with my faith in Jesus. If there is a God, and the bible is His book to us, than it only makes sense to believe it, given those two premises (which I know is the rub). And Jesus said "I go to prepare a place for you."

Not preaching here, just being more specific on why I believe in life after death.

Yes. Let me just say that I'm not overly religious or wierdly metaphysical or any other crap like that but my family calls me The Cat for a reason. I guess you could say I've had "soul(s)-on" training. If cats truly do have nine lives, I've only got six left (I'm on #4). So having "Been there, Done that" yada, yada, yada, and only being able to offer my opinion I would definately say yes. I'm not sure whether or not having been where I've been (I think I've racked up enough frequent flyer miles there), seen what I've seen and (or) felt what I've felt is good or bad, but it's definately changed the way I look at everything.

As StephanA noted, we are stardust. Stardust given self awareness. Where does the self awareness come from when we are born? Where does it go when we die? This is our spirit and like stardust, it also survives.

We exist only in the Giant's Dream. The rest is illusion.

On a more serious note (did I just see someone typing in pink up there?), I agree with the J-man. And if I happen to die and find out I'm not oblivious (unlikely), we'll take it from there.

Sure.. I mean.. This CAN'T be all can it? I think there is more to us then meets the eye. I mean, explain all the "paranormal" things that people see and feel. They can't ALL be hallucinations. As for reincarnation... I think it likely, but if it DOES occur, I think it's more of a spiritual progression thing. Making ourselves better, you know. Not in the form of punishment for some problem we cause or whatever. Yeah, there's more to us then meets the eye!

I have a sort of 50/50 belief.

On one hand, I believe in something greater and more compassionate than humans currently are, and perhaps can ever be - and I do call it God. I would love it if after death I go to a place that cradles me in a loving embrace. I believe love is the reason for our existence.

The other possibility to my mind, does not deny the first hand, but agrees with the analogy that goes like this; "Our energy comes from the universe, and when we die, our energy returns to the universe - similar to when you go to the ocean and scoop up some ocean water in your hand and say "this is mine", and then you eventually let the water drop, and it returns to the ocean".

I believe in doing your best in life and creating friendships so that you will be remembered fondly beyond your years. This at least would be a form of life after death.

I must say this has been quite a ride SD,glad to see yet another interesting thread by you.

Well afterlife can be seen from varius points of view. For me it does exist,it is a belief firm as the existance of God.It's God's promise to us all that one day he'll accept back to paradise his long lost children.

As for me,i belong to those okward people who like to think they live with ideals and moral beliefs.Based on this i pray to God to take me near Him before science or human in general provide solid facts of His in-existance.I wouldn't like to be around for the day that science manages to overcome logic and the limits of human nature.

To lighten-up just read Arkas,a great Greek cartoonist. He made a series called The Life After, that always makes me crack in laughter.
Like the following discussion between a dead one and an angel:
Dead:Heaven is nice, but i miss Earth that i left so soon. Tell me angel why did i have to die so young?
Angel:All good die young.
Dead:You really believe in this crap?
Angel:No,but when i'm being asked stupid questions what you'd expect to answer?
Dead:You could think of something more original.Aftel all i only said i didn't have to die so young.
Angel:Look man,the time of your death is like your big toe of your foot.
Dead:What do you mean?
Angel:It's not in your hand!

Gotta love this guy.

Some more Arkas:

Dead:Angel, when all dead resurrect what will it become to heaven?
Angel:Don't know, some say it'll be turned to parking place.Oh and don't wait that the dead will rise any soon now.Just yesterday they renew our contracts for another 2000 years.
Dead:2000 Years!That's darn long.
Angel:Well,i simply can't understand you humans. You lived your lives, what more do you want? You are the only species that asks for resurrection.
Dead:But we are only humans.
Angel:Exactly the most greedy species on Earth.
Dead:We ain't greedy sir,we just ask for a second chance.
Voice from the back:And a third one,and a third one!
Dead:Who's that?
Angel:Just Lazarus.

As whith citizen Billman,...been there,..done that,..and still here to tell it(though i really don't like cats....too...feline ) Though having been there already is an advantage not everyone has the luxury of experiancing, it brings an intense sense of clarity to life. I used to agree with the saying 'only in death, we are truely alone',...but i couldn't disagree any more. There is, He is, and it's a wonderfull place.

I believe in life after death.

I believe in God the Father and Jesus the Son and the Holy Ghost.

I believe God created us in his image.

I have faith in the Bible because of things I have witnessed with my own eyes. I have seen the sick healed by the power of touch and prayer. I have heard people talk in tounges and others predict the future. I have seen the power of God move through others and myself.

I believe in eternal life and life after death.

To those that would contest my beliefs: so be it but you shall not hurt my faith.
