Life after death.

Do you believe?

I don't want this to be a theological debate. I would prefer if it were kept very general and that we respect other's rights to their beliefs. That means no arguments. I am interested, though, in who believes in life after death. It doesn't have to be judaio Christianity. It can be reincarnation, ghosts, ...anything. Do you believe that there is something after our body passes on? You can just say "yes" or "no" or go into a bit of detail, but please stick to your own belief and don't criticize someone else's.

I might as well start. I do believe in life after death. I believe that we have souls and that they are eternal.

Oooooo..kind of a tricky/touchy subject here SD, some people are really set in their beliefs about this...

Ok, im brave (or stooopid..LoL) Yeah,I believe there is, of course I believe in God, and I also believe in reincarnation (a form of punnishment..::laughs:
For a long time I did not believe, I simply wrote it off as being final, but, the more documentaries I have watched, and actual scientific research of the bible and stories within, I have been pretty much convinced that for these things to happen, when they most needed to happen, could never be a coincidence, just too many things...
I still do not believe in the church,or any religion, but I do believe in God, or if you will a supreme being.

Theres my input,
Zero.

Brave, not stupid. I just have this thought that most people believe in something "supernatural" for lack of a better word; something outside of our "natural" world that we experience with our senses. So I would also really like to hear from those who don't believe in life after death. This is family . It's safe to speak your mind.

its thy eternal question, but no1 will ever no because there is no way of telling someone after you die. i would say yes because something must happen in our brains, because life is just a series of complex beliefs that we have created. the world looks different to each one of us, and thats how the image is created. i believe there is life after death in a scientific/non-religious way

We live on in the memories of those not yet dead.

Other than that, nope, nada, zip...

Humans are unique, unlike any living thing on earth. We have emotions, memories ,etc.and to believe that when we die ,thats it, is hard to believe .. Whether we go to heaven, hell, reincarnated, or just live in a different plain of existance there is a life after death. Kinda hard to put in words , but i hope I made some sense

Gotta go with Jafo on this one.
Some say the human body is the perfect 'machine' but as perfect as it might be, once it breaks down, its done, over and gone.

I haven't been able to disprove my deceased parents opinions...yet.
Have to agree with Jafo & Apocalypse.
Not exactly on topic but, to lighten the mood:

**** THE UNDERTAKER SKETCH ****
**** from Monty Python's Contractual Obligations Album ****

Man: (entering a shop) Um, excuse me, is this the undertaker's?
Undertaker: Yup, that's right, what can I do for you, squire?
Man: Um, well, I wonder if you can help me. My mother has just died
and I'm not quite sure what I should do.
Undrtk: Ah, well, we can 'elp you. We deal with stiffs.
Man: (aghast) Stiffs?
Undrtk: Yea. Now there's three things we can do with your mum. We can bury
her, burn her, or dump her.
Man: Dump her?
Undrtk: Dump her in the Thames.
Man: (still aghast) What?
Undrtk: Oh, did you like her?
Man: Yes!
Undrtk: Oh well, we won't dump her, then. Well, what do you think: burn her,
or bury her?
Man: Um, well, um, which would you recommend?
Undrtk: Well they're both nasty. If we burn her, she gets stuffed in the
flames, crackle, crackle, crackle, which is a bit of a shock if she's
not quite dead. But quick. And then you get a box of ashes, which you
can pretend are hers.
Man: (timidly) Oh.
Undrtk: Or, if you don't wanna fry her, you can bury her. And then she'll get
eaten up by maggots and weevils, nibble, nibble, nibble, which isn't
so hot if, as I said, she's not quite dead.
Man: I see. Um. Well, I.. I.. I.. I'm not very sure. She's definitely dead.
Undrtk: Where is she?
Man: In the sack.
Undrtk: Let's 'ave a look.

(FX: rustle of bag opening)

Undrtk: Umm, she looks quite young.
Man: Yes, she was.
Undrtk: (over his shoulder) FRED!
Fred: (offstage) Yea!
Undrtk: I THINK WE'VE GOT AN EATER!
Fred: (offstage) I'll get the oven on!
Man: Um, er...excuse me, um, are you... are you suggesting we should
eat my mother?
(pause)
Undrtk: Yeah. Not raw, not raw. We cook her. She'd be delicious with a few
french fries, a bit of stuffing. Delicious! (smacks his lips)
Man: What! (he stammers)
(pause)
Man: Actually, I do feel a bit peckish - No! NO, I can't!
Undrtk: Look, we'll eat your mum. Then, if you feel a bit guilty about it
afterwards, we can dig a grave and you can throw up into it.
Man: All right.

There is just too much anacdotal evidence to come to the conclusion that there is nothing after death. Every culture has it's mythologies - and most often these are based on some sort of reality according to the social sciences. Comparing those mythologies gives one the same picture - that death of the body is but a doorway. I believe that one's essence, soul or what have you, passes from this plane of existance to another.

Yes I beleive in life after death. I also believe in reincarnation. What a waste it would be if we were to only live once, and take to the grave the vast knowledge we (hopefully) learn while we are here. I think reincarnation is a great example of why children at the age of 3 can play Bach and Chopin like concert pianists. And yes. I beleive in Karma. And most important I believe in God.

Man's insecurity and ultimate mortality demands a 'creation' of a belief in something that 'comes after'.

Its universal 'belief' or 'hope' does not generate any truth, substance or reality.

Once your own consciousness is extinct [life] you can only live on in others' memories and  in records/evidence of your deeds whilst alive.

So....

Make friends....and treat them well....or have children....and treat them well....as they will be how you are survived...

I still say reincarnation is punnishment, if you did something you werent supposed to you come back to see if you can get it right ::nods:: punnishment it just has to be!..

I'd like to say I believe in life after death, but since I've yet to see any concrete proof of anything like this, I'll just say I like the idea of it. It would be nice to know that there is something better than what we have now. I was brought up a catholic when I was younger, but when I reached the age of reason I started seeing through the cracks of this kind of thinking or belief.

And let me clarify that these are my beliefs and I am not putting anyones elses down. I feel you should believe in what ever works for you and I'd fight for your right to do so, but for myself I need more than just blind faith. And since the pope rides around in behind bullet proof glass, I can see his faith is a little in doubt.

But the answer to this will only be found in the end when we all take the big dirt nap. When that happens, we will either see the light at the end of the tunnel, unless it just happens to be burned out, or we will just cease to be.

But its all about the journey...not the end.

I would like to think that there was some purpose beyond this mortal coil.
I was raised Catholic and from what I gather it's a contest for my soul between God and the devil. But I don't see the purpose of that.
As a teen I read the series "Incarnations Of Immoptality" by Piers Anthony. He described a system where God and Satan were trying to sort evil and goodness in chaos through a filtering process in people. Nice thought. But I can't buy it.

I hope for reincarnation. Let me take some of the lessons I learned in this like into the next and try to do better. Somelife later, I get to win the lottery and go to heaven. {I hope though, that after so many lives and so many lessons, heaven means less to me because I will have found happiness within.}

I mean yes. I believe in life after death.

No but if I'm wrong:-
They tell me there's only ever 2 things to worry about:-

If I'm happy or if I'm sad,
If I'm happy - then why worry,
If I'm sad there's only 2 things to worry about,
If I'm healthy or if I'm sick,
If I'm healthy - then why worry,
If I'm sick there's only 2 things to worry about,
If I live or if I die,
If I live - then why worry,
If I die there's only 2 things to worry about,
If I go to Heaven or if I go to Hell,
If I go to Heaven - then why worry,
If I go to Hell - I'll be so darn busy shaking hands with old friends, I won't have time to worry.

We are just stardust, part of this great chemical soup called expanding universe. We are born from stardust and then disappear into it.

All other conceptions and pre-conceptions are part of the human psyche used by each individual to survive.
Yep, I believe in life after death.

We are already dead. No. We are figments or possible fragments of thoughts. We are just manifestations of a great Universal head and that head is dreaming us up. Say......Old Crab is a consciousness or id of a underdone potato and Jafo is a nightmare id of never to eat an under done potato again. Etc. Hmmmmm.....Deja Vu we've had several discussions like this before! WOW! Deja Vue we've had several discussions like this before....!

Grand Raspberries to all and to all a good night......or whatever.......!
