Star Dock Central Problem

There seems to be a problem when I upgrade Star Dock Central after starting it. Says that there is a new version, etc. so I install it, it asks to reboot, so I do.

The problem is, on the reboot, when the system is restarted, all icons in my task bar are gone.

Same thing happened to me, after auto upgrade two days ago. At first I thought my firewall was not loading at reboot, but further inspection of my tray tab (objectdock plus) showed it was indeed running. Looks like only the icons in the main sys tray are missing.

Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

The reason has been discovered and there is a fix described in the stardock news groups as follows:

For some reason the new SDC install deletes the MCP files from
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock. It seems they have to be there
for SDMCP to startup properly - I think it starts before the Start
Menu->Startup items.

I found them in X:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\Downloads\SDCommon
ie. where your SDC is currently installed and where it is set to
download files into.

Copy them back into the first dir, reboot and you're away.

Note that this occurred for me both when first updating to the latest
SDC beta, and then reverting back to the last SDC release.

Something to be looked for the next release I guess.

My directory structure seems to be a little different. How many MCP files do I need to locate, and what are the file names? I can do a search for them, but I don't have a "Downloads" folder. Thanks for finding the info.

The entire contents of SDCommon (in my case) were needed:

mcpcore.dll
MCPStub.dll
sdmcp.exe

I tried copying the first two files on your list (didn't notice the exe one) and nothing happened! duh! Okay, I'll go get the 3rd file and copy it over...thanks so much for your help!!

edit to add: Found that exe file and copied it over, everything is back to normal. yay! btw, I had to copy them from the Common Files directory to the Stardock\SDCentral folder, instead of the other way around like the instructions. Thanks again!

Diafragma, I've learned, after a few bad updates, to turn off the auto-update feature in SDC. I've had to restore my system once before when SDC downloaded/installed an ODock+ update.

For me it had nothing to do with OD+, only the update of SDC was the problem.

Has this been corrected yet?

Tried to update again yesterday, same issues. resorted to a True Image.

Fix the darned problem Already would you Star Dock? Without having to have a work around.

Oh, I'd also like to add-

Your products and such are truly top notch. I could never imagine using windows without your programs!

This is really puzzling... I don't know what you've tried already, or what other threads you've read. but may I suggest the following:

Make sure you're logged in with admin rights.

Uninstall SDC - check in the Windows' "Set program Access & Defaults" that it's gone from there. Then check using TaskManager that no copies of SDMCP.EXE are running (kill them if so).

Delete any startup entries for SDMCP.EXE you might have in the startup folder(s) and/or MSConfig->Startup.
IIRC the location(s) for SDMCP startup is under:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\WinLogon\Notify\MCPClient
No other startup entries are needed

Run this: https://www.stardock.com/files/odnt_zapper.exe

Restart the PC.

Close OD and/or whatever else maybe using the system tray.

Re-install SDC (enable the 'MCP Notificatoin' & 'MCP Startup' checkboxes).

Start OD (and....)

Well, no luck with that Still the 'Stardock MCP not found or wrong version Sys tray support disabled' error message and no sys tray.

Anyway I did find a another thread whic had a similar problem. It would appear that it is all down to the file which is nowhere to be found on my system. Anyway there had been an answer from one of the tec guys who provided a link download the missing files:

Once downloaded and installed, everything's now working fine.
