Wise words from Stephen King

Something people should consider

While reading The Stand (The uncut version, pg. 896-897) by Stephen King I recently came upon this little passage that caught my eye and I thought it quite relevant to today's society...or at least the people around me...but I suppose it can be applied in many places.

It is as follows:

"They talk like people, he thought, who have kept the huddled-up secrets of their guilts and inadequacies to themselves for a long time, when verbalized, were only life-sized after all. When the inner terror sowed in sleep was finally harvested in this marathon public discussion the terror became more manageable...perhaps even conquerable."

The jist of that is that you should talk to other people, don't harbor your emotions and problems inside. When you express these things to another person than they become easier to cope with, when someone else understands you.

I just thought it was a pretty meaningful little thing.....well, hope you found it as such, also.

I always enjoy catching little tidbits like that in what I read (as little as that is). This one from Ender's Game I kept dog-earred for a long time. The set up is that the woman who is thinking believes she has caused the death of a loved one and without what she thinks is a proper precaution, she'll kill another loved one.

"I carry the seeds of death within me and plant them wherever I linger long enough to love."

So sad, but it just hit me. You know how those things go.

Well said, Mr. King & Zoologist03. Before I discovered the forum of blogging, my thoughts, guilts, and inadequacies were eating me alive because I had no outlet for expressing them.

Thank goodness for people like Brad! JoeUser is my therapy. Who needs psychiatrists when we've got blogs?

I'm guessing when you say talk to people, you make me feel like you're talking about me. Just a coeenkeedink.

Stephen King is one of my favorite writers. Just finished Book 6 of the Dark Tower, The Song of Susannah.

He is one of the writers who captures the spirit of our times, the zeitgeist as the Germans would say.
