It's easy to see why some people object to having no control over whom they're forced to share space with on the sidebar. Sometimes those bunched up titles can bring up some interesting juxtapositions or even blend together in unintended but amusing ways.


For instance, my last article ("You Talkin' to ME?") got sandwiched between a limp dick and a dirtbag.




Then there was this little gem. (I'll leave it to you to decide whether or not the two "bads" are supposed to equal each other.)




But for me the all time classic came during last year's election season. It gave me quite a start till I realized what was going on. Talk about a double take.





Keep an eye on the sidebar. It's sometimes beat poetry, sometimes disturbing, and frequently a great laugh.

Jolly good show Gene. I feel there should some sort of buffer to break these article titles up.

I prefer not to have the articles autosyndicated to my page in the first place, but great way to have fun with what we are forced with.

I built a rough draft alternate interface to this blog on my site, mainly for use with BlogExplosion. Imagine what could be done if we had the option of having the full text in the RSS feed. (If one doesn't use the sub-header, the RSS description field has a truncated sample of the article. Not as good, but workable.)

Actually, I have a PHP script that can pull in a page (or portion thereof) off the net, cache it, and make it available to integrate into any other page. (I already use it to munge the RSS feed.) That could be used to pull the blog contents off JU and do anything you wanted with it. Sidebars, no sidebars, the sky's the limit. I'll probably integrate that into the version on my site eventually, if only so when JU is down or too slow, the cached version will appear and no-one will be the wiser. So, with a PHP enabled site and the right scripts you could actually make quite a robust template while still using JU as blog software.

It's late. I'm babbling. I babble when I get tired. (Not sure what my excuse is for the rest of the day.)

Yes, I remember those. I'm fascinated by the natural shapes they fall into all on their own. It's a good example of the way the human brain looks for meaning and reason where there actually isn't any.
