deviantMEET is coming..

Meet the deviants...

http://news.deviantart.com/article/16992/
Our friends at deviantART are setting up website summit this summer (June 17, 18). It is something I hope to attend this summer too. deviantART has long been a friend to the skinning community and has grown from a being..well deviant to dominating the on-line art-scene.

You'll be able to meet thousands of people from the deviantART community (many of whom are WinCustomize users as well). Visit the link below to find out more.

I do hope they make their search engine available to common users again. The last time I checked, it said search was available only to registered users 'due to overwhelming demand'.
I can't make ANY sense of it.. What good is a skinning site without a search option? Either I have to memorise the sub-sites of the people, or sift through the entire gallery, or from a link somebody provides in an article.
Purely Idiotic

A bit far a-way for me!

Yeah, I think they should bring that back, the reason for it might be load on the server, i have noticed since DA hit 10mill deviations, it seems to have got really slow.

I also feel that DA is no longer what it once was in terms of skinning, there's just not much of a comunity for skinning as it used to be.

Whelp, the search function is there for everyone, however, if you want to tax the servers you have to support the site somehow, and you can do that by buying a subscription. Sounds fair to me. Also, with regard to the skinning community, just about every skinner hosts or mirrors their skins on dA because of they know it has the largest userbase of any skin/art site. Whether or not the skin community is as prominently featured is another thing, but you can't deny that almost all skinners atleast mirror their work there if nothing else. I mean, every gfxOsais or Neowin post I read has a link to deviantART if nothing else.

With regard to the 2005 deviantART Summit, Angelo (Spyed) has released an update to the original news article: Link I think it's going to be a great resource for anyone serious about art and design, both professional and amateur. I hope to see a lot of WinCustomize users/subscribers there. Brad, it'd be great to see you there if you go.

I won't be able to make it. That's a long travel for me and don't have the $ for it. Maybe next time if they have one.

I just think it's a shame that Jark, one of the founders of DeviantArt, isn't going to be able to get to the meet.

What kind of DeviantMeet would it be without someone who's heart and soul of DA?

One correction: I suspct far more people come here to get skins than go to dA for skins. People come here only for skins and we have over two million registered users.  deviantART gets more traffic - it is a huge art site.  But I think you'd be hard pressed to argue that most people going to deviantART are going their for skins.  Take away the pure art portions from dA and I suspect its traffic would decline dramatically -- just as WC's traffic would decline dramatically if we decreased what skins we covered.

As for other sites linking to dA, that's primarily about people making msstyles link to deviantART primarily because WinCustomize doesn't host msstyles.

Anyway, just as deviantART has worked hard to become the world's leading indie art site. We have worked hard to make WinCustomize the world's leading skin site.  If you broaden your market enough, you get a lot more users.  By covering all of art, deviantART has become an immensely popular website. But that doesn't make it the world's most popular skin site any more than Download.com is the world's most popular skin site.

Getting back to the topic, I do plan to go to deviantMEET if scheduling permits. It would be very cool if Jark can go too.

John Hamp loves deviantART. But FB is right, it's not really a skin site anymore. It's a art site that just so happens to have some areas for skins.
