Speed Improvements!

If you haven't noticed yet, the JoeUser forums has changed a bit.  Over at WinCustomize for the last half  year we have been coverting the site over from ASP to ASP.Net.  By doing this we are able to use many of the features in ASP.Net which help improve performance.   We have just taken the first step in bringing this updated technology over to JoeUser via the forums.   Hopefully the first thing you should notice is a speed improvement.  The .net code takes advantage of data caching which allows to reduce how often we have to access the database which helps make the site faster!

We are also in the process of updating the look of the forums.  If you will notice there are two links at the top of the forums (Forum Indexed View and Standard View). The new Forum Indexed View allows you to get a listing of the sub forums for each parent category.  There is a good chance we will make this default view of the forums so please let us know what you think about it.  But use it for a little bit before making a rushed descision.

We do expect a few glitches here and there so please let us know if you experience any problems.  Thanks and enjoy the forums!

while im not mortally concerned about the troll/insightful rater, i would prefer to see more articles displayed per category.

I like this option as well. Perhaps the category index could be changed so we could scroll through the options rather than having to click on "more" and leave the main index? I know next to nothing about coding, so I don't know if it's doable or not, but this would increase the speed with which we could surf the forums...I, for one, with limited access would appreciate it.

As for the "look" of it, I think you're on the right track, at least. I'll hold off a week or two and get used to it before I give a final comment.

I've been having a problem where I can't post a comment from the Forum. If I go directly to anyone's homepage, no problems. Only from the Forum. Any clues?

Cheers,

I am having the same problem that I just discovered when I tried to reply a few hours back. Wasn't a problem when this new design was first put up.

Ditto on that--it started last night and has continued this morning. I'm afraid that when it is resolved dharma is going to find 800 identical replies from me on one of her articles!

I'm having a forum problem too. I posted a new article directly into the Forum and then I couldn't edit it. So I went directly to my account and posted from there with the corrections. However, now I have this article posted twice. The posting from the Forum has incorrect links which are vital to what I'm writing about. How do I delete this article?

Anyone finding they were signed out when they came back to the site(I think I was technically signed in for 6 months there without having to put my password back in.)

Yeah, I have been having that problem lately. I have to re-login every time I return to the site lately.

sometimes i have to re-log in twice because the first one doesn't work.

I know that everyone's been saying that they like the new style, and I had hoped that after a couple of days using it I would too....but I don't. I much preferred the old style...sorry!
