@Cari&Frog: Hey, you finally fixed the bug that I told you about in the 1.10 chat! And you haven't even mentioned it in the version-log...

Thank you for fixing it + the bug that the AIs could build SBs wherever they wanted...

With that patch Galciv made a huge step in the direction of flawlessness! :)

It was an exploitable bug. When you wanted to buy something from the AI you could simply use 1 turn instead of 0 the result was the same but you got it cheaper for like 60% of what it's worth.
The reason was that 1 turn was 1 payment... Now 1 turn is 2 payments (1st right now, 2nd after a turn) as it should be and you can no longer betray the AI with this bug...

I think that could've been one the easiest fixable bugs ever... more than adding a "+1" probably was not required to remove it! ;)

I have a game in progress on 1.11 that I'd like to continue. Should I wait to upgrade?

Thoughts?

With the number of changes to the AI, I am waiting... The last time I did an upgrade in the middle of a gigantic game, it no longer loaded. I have also had bizare things occur in other games when earlier patches were applied. Finish this one out, then start fresh with the latest patch is my recommendation.

I do look forward to trying it though... I simply have not had time to finish this last game. :)

AIL.ST: it was fixed in the last update...is it under the 1.11 notes?

Here is a link to clean data files, if anyone needs them:

http://www.joeuser.com/sdfiles/data%201.12.zip

Here is the file list:

http://www.joeuser.com/sdfiles/filelist.txt

http://www.joeuser.com/sdfiles/gfxfilelist.txt

If you use the mods folder, you have to enable it either from the options menu or by editing the Prefs.ini files. (EnableMods=1)

I'm checking into reports that the political party logos are not appearing.

may i just say that apart from the couple of hickups, thank you for a great update. the improved ai and all other improvments will make for an even better game.

once again the support from CariElf and the other members of stardock has been incredible, and has proved why this game and this site are the envy of many other manufacturers (atari for one! - my view only), and the joy of galciv players.

so thanks to Frogboy, CariElf and the team for your continued support.

Ah, I never knew about that 0 turn/ 1 turn exploit. Actually, I've never heard of alot of the exploits people seem to employ (I don't wander over to the strategy forum very often). I still don't know what the 'unbreakable alliance' problem is that I've seen mentioned elsewhere.

Jordan,

Once you get a race to ally with you, they don't break it, regardless of the provocation, unless you actually shoot at them. So, if you're allied with the Arceans, you can move, say, 15 Party Palace Terror Stars into their sectors and keep the alliance, just waiting for them to flip... This is obviously a bug in the diplomatic system.

@Cari Elf: In the 2 1.11 games, I made, I wanted to play without exploits so I did not notice if it was already fixed. But it certainly was not in the patch txt...

@Samurai Ben: Why would you want to take over the planets of your Allies? I cannot trade with myself! That thing with the unbreakable Alliance in GC is not a bug for me. I find it really cool! If you have an Ally in this game it is really a true ally and you can go to the end with him! Just look at my Profile, it's really rare that I win the game alone! More often than not my Allie(s) are a great help in achieving a victory! The Gigantic game I submitted was cool in this scope: I had 3 planets, Altarians had 20+ ... I managed to ally with them and could sit back and watch them to achieve the victory for me! :)

@Ginata el Bohemio: Did it? I really don't think so! Seems like the same 3x3 radius as it was before...

Because they want to rack up more points in the metaverse, thus go for military victory.
Game-wise, it makes sense too, if your ally is too weak and you'd rather ally with his enemy. Get rid of ally1, help another civ to destroy them, and ally with that new civ. It is currently possible, but shouldn't because if you do this, then you should be branded as untrustworthy.

When will the update be available as a stand alone download for non-stardock users?
Hmm I never Ally with someone who is weak and has bad relations to someone who is strong but well... I never thought about penalties for backstabbing because I never did so!

One the one side it makes sense that Alliance victories get less score because they are easy to achieve... On the other hand if you ally and then culturally conquer your ally who does not mind you for absorbing him it's nowhere harder and I agree that they should react on culture SBs in the same way as someone who is not your ally does.

Ahhh, thanks for the info. I've never tried that. I usually only ally with the AI when I don't think I can achieve a military victory and go for the alliance victory instead.

Once you're allied with everyone it's currently cakewalk to backstab them all and get a military victory. Therefore, a military victory is easier than an alliance one since you can automatically get a military victory when in allied state (build terror stars near every of your allies door and go kaboom in one turn). Plus you can win even if you can't get allied with anyone, so it's easier (includes alliance victory games) thus, if 'easy' was a factor, military should actually score less than alliance.
There is no reason why one type of victory should bring less points than another. All types of victories should provide the same number of points on the average in order for the players to choose the victory condition they want based on what they want to do rather than the points they want to get.
But there's no reason why people should play to get points too. That's playing the meta game, not the game, and stardock does better by improving the game than the metaverse imo.

I used to always play good so I could be friends with the Altarians and Torians until something like this happened to me. I stopped going for alliances after that game. I want to win the game, not watch the Altarians win it.

Peter, try deleting the files out of your stardock central temp directory and downloading again.
