Truly a significant date in the history of the Metaverse. Congrats, Cotal. I'm suddenly reminded of the fact that you toyed with joining the Jedi awhile back... :)

Thanks guys . . .

The maso tweak was the only thing that made it achievable, I mean really . . . hehe (60k a pop, wow that helps I gotta tell you!) . . . be it for better or worse though (not a level playing field now imo). :SURPRISED:

The Jedi I think are one of the best Clans 'stat and manner' wise . . . never a mean or boisterous word about or to anyone, very appealing I think. And those light Sabers! One day I gotta get me one of those (a pink one! sry that's a bit cheecky). . . but until then I'll play for Australia!

I love Australia! I really do . . . just can't shake it. Hehe, never thought I'd win a Gold Medal for my Country (let alone at a computer game) LMAO . . . now that's an amusing thought LOL . . .

grats cotal! i got a quick question tho.... how long your gigantic games usually take?? Ive got on ive been working on for about 5 hours now, and i know that i have won (finished tech tree, control 50% of map, have military lead so they wont declare war on me). Now its all mop up, and its gonna take me at least another 5 long, very very very boring hours to win. About how long your games usually last? ;)
Black_Shade, we have different playing styles (I use Alliance and Cullture bombong alot and build no millitary) . . . all the same I clean up using Terror Stars (vile I know) but it takes less than an hour.

A Gigantic Map takes anywhere from 4 hrs (my PB) to 7 hours. I probably average under 5 hours now . . .

I try and keep the Dregeins around in all my games because for some strange reason I can steal alot of techs off them in the end game . . . makes a big difference . . .

Hope that helps save you some time . . . :)

Would you please please write a simple strat guide the way you play?My gigantics usually takes 20 hrs or more and some posts you put in you say you do alot of trading for influence points.I do that but don't see how it makes game any faster other than helping UP issues go my way.Planet rushing on gigantic usually takes about an hour and I also skip many techs only to trade for them later in game.Any help would be appreciated.

OK dokie . . .

1. Get a start in the 'middle' of the map (or as close as you can)

2. Make sure you have a nice Sol . . . PQ 19 or 20 (I'm pretty rough on my citizens early on)

3. Save the game

4. Load your saved game and build a couple scout, set spending to zero (reduces your own pop-ups) and scout out as far as your collony ships can go . . . draw a little star map if it helps you remember where the nearest good systems are . . .

5. If there are 5 or more habbitable planets within range reload your previous save and you should be able to get to them first with ease (millitary spending at 100% until all your collony ships are built, sending them out as you go) . . . note you can click on stars you know you want even if there is a fog of war on the reload via the mini map.

5a. If your exploration turns up a bad position (i.e. not many habbitable plannets nearby) just restart . . . you've only lost about 5 minutes . . .

6. As soon as you've built your last collony ship switch to full research spending . . . I go after all the diplomatic pics then the Manufactuing Capital (Nano-something can't remember) pics then all the 'ready next turn' techs then stop researching.

7. By this time your survey ship and other AI's Frieghters should have found each other (thats partly why you take the middle first up) Around this time you set Social to 99% (with 1% research incase your scout finds an annomaly bonus) . . . .

8. Go after Diplomatic Translators if they havent been built already otherwise condstruct a Manufacturing Capital pronto . . . the AI is very slow to build it (it's focused on millitary techs I guess?)

9. Its cheesy and I know it . . . but befor I go after a TG/Wonder at this stage I save the game and 'occasionaly' reload if someone else beats me to it (esp influence/diplomatic bonus TG/Wonders) early on . . . most of the time you'll get them though, or you should with practice.

10. While I'm building these along with my 'economy augmenting' social projects on all planets at full speed I trade like a 'Wall Street Stockbroker' everything I have as I get it . . . after a bit of practice you'll have 'all' the techs the AI has except some of the millitary techs. I always use influence here to see what a techs relative worth is (since they rarely trade for cash) If the AI won't trade me for something I ask for Influence instead (As Ray the Wanderer said they'll get it from someone very soon anyway) . . . The only exception is when I have a Tech exclusive to a project I'm still building . . . they can have that after I'm finished with it! LOL

11. About now you might notice your almost broke (-500 bc), this not good! There is no alternative other than to decrease overall spending until you've got a positive cash flow (asking for Tribute isn't a good idea on maso . . . hehe). Since you've built alot of social projects a 'slight' reduction in Tax will make your population shoot up sharply hence increasing revenue until more trade ships come in to take up he slack . . .

12. It goes without saying that you keep an eye on your relationship with all the AIs throughout the early game and throw them a bone or two when they start looking at you sidways . . .

13. Since your in the middle of the map by default your everyones number one choice to trade with . . . to keep it that way start bribing AIs to war with each other, this also wastes thier resources and reduces the threat of them attacking you instead.

14. Early-Mid-game. The Minors are strating to fall behind in tech (to few planets). Your economy should be booming by now so you can offer the weakest AI something substancial for Battleship tech . . . once you have either this or Disruptors all the AIs will probably want to ally with you . . . :D . Send your combat Transports out using constructor base bridges to all the Minors you can find. While your doing this beguin reasearching again . . . Cultural Modules and Troop Techs.

15. Send out constructor fleets to each minors sector you plan on invading and build palaces to defend against the AI flipping you after you've invaded each Minor.

16. Now you have a foothold in another AIs space increase millitary spending further (making constructors) to try and flip as many neighbouring systems as possible . . . Culture bombs are so very powerful, I luv it!

17. All the while watch what the stronger AIs are researching and grab the tech off them befor they have a chance to build the associated Wonder/TG (esp Cultural conquest, Historical Preserve and later Dark Side and 4 Philosophy) . . .

18. Basically you don't really want one AI to dominate the others so help out your allies where you can so things are equitable . . .

19. Ussualy two of your allies who arn't coping too well will surrender to you befor the end game starts . . . yeay! great! Be careful to have a few constructors on stand by since some of thier planets social improvements won't be up to scratch (high flipability?) . . .

20. If the Dregens are still around you'll be able to save at least an hour of research in your game virtue of the fact that you can steal so many techs off them (this inclues all the long techs at the end of the game!). Increasing espionage to exploit this well intended feature . . . lol

21. If all goes well by the time you finish your research they'll be only a dozen AI systems left . . . If they don't seem likely to flip send 10 constructors to nestle up againts each, build Terror Stars, break your alliances and Destroy them (Ouch thats nasty!)

Hope that helps . . . I know it's a bit patchy but that basicaly what I do :)

Thanks Cotal
I do mostly what you do but I can't figure out how you do a full gigantic in only 5 or 6 hours!!Culture bombing works great but still takes awhile.I trade like crazy until I'm almost caught up but some techs they just wont come off of.Maybe I'll have to offer cash as well as some techs.Do you offer as low as you can for as many turns as possible?I try to keep minors around till end game so I have trade partners because I try not to build up any AI.Maybe this is what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks again.

Yes thats it! AT least I thinks thats it :notsure: . . . hehe.

I use the minors as stepping stones and bases for my cultural expansion, whereas you seem to have a respect/affinity for them, which is cool too. I know it's cruel but it saves time . . . and thier so easy to Ally/un-Ally/re-Ally with when the need suits . . . that little White Smillie in my profile is an absolute travesty :SURPRISED:

So how do you keep money flowing when all trade partners are absorbed or destroyed.I have hard time keeping enough funds so I don't end up in whole myself at the end of game.Usually mid game I'm sitting pretty but as you acquire more and more planets theres no one left to trade with.I get tired of having to keep making freighters at end to keep my own econ from sinking fast.Even with most t/g and wonders built and even if I start reducing improvements on my planets to only econ and morale ones planets still seem to suck that dough pretty quick.Advice please!

what i do is try and keep my trading planet ( i only do 1 planet so i can trade SB it) in a corner. This way, i can not flip that planet and wait tell end game to grab it, so i can keep money coming in.

and cotal, i find i spend over 60% of my game destroying buildings on planets that the AI builds (they build every stupid building available). Do you let those stick around or do u take the time to destroy them too? Im sure my game time would be cut in at least half if i didnt have to do that.
Yep how do they build everything and still have econ?I also spend time destroying alot of unwanted improvs. If I build everything then I have absolutly no money even with reduced spending and then my research suffers as well even wen trading for everything they will give up.
I never build frieghters unless I'm desperate for cash . . . and I only build social projects that improve my economy/moral as I need them.

I always build Economic Exchanges (luv these ones I build them super early) Trade centers (appear too late in the game imho) and all the habbit improvements (soil, improved hab', terraforming and the terraformer (if I'm lucky)). . . all these have no maintaiance.

Never bother with defences or ship improvement facilities (plan def', sys def', omega def' and all the ship foundaries, bla yuk etc etc) these are way too rich for me!

I only build research centers (theres about 4 or 5 variations I think) and orbital hospitals where they influence/impact other sectors . . .

If I miss Dark Side (Life force), Hyper Distribution Center (Cultural Conquest) and the Trade monument (The wetter-way?) I struggle a bit economicaly at the end too. I tax around 40% through out the game but use the populists pick (diplomacy/moral bonuses) so that helps too . . .

Flipping planets doesn't seem to take that long to me . . . I literaly have hundereds of constructors all ready to go buy the time I'm getting into the AIs territory. I do fall behind in tech mid-game while doing this but since I'm allied to all or most of the AIs it doesn't matter . . .

Believe me if the Dregens aren't around at the end of the game to steal the last dozen or so long winded techs from it takes an extra hour at least. Research is very expensive, I aviod it when ever possible.

I didn't even know you could destroy social projects . . . how do you do that? Seriously . . . :d

I love the sound the game makes when you flip a planet! What is it? For the life of me I can't work-out what it is a sample of? A broken drum? Someone moving Furniture? I must know . . . Ahhhhh h h ! LOL

Okay, you clearly have a much better computer than I do.

You can destroy social projects in the "details" screen for the colony.

vincible . . . maybe I do, my husband's work computer really cooks! Thanks for the info too . . . appreciate it.

Cotal, great stuff!!! Thanks for sharing your strategies :D

I've been playing small and medium maps so far but I plan to keep working my way up in size to gigantic.

Some more tips that might help people out.

Early game:

1. Advanced diplomacy is the first tech you should be looking to trade to the ais as they almost never research it before you. When trading this (and during all tech trading) if you have met more than one ai, check to see if any of them have techs that the others don't. If they do, trade your tech for that one with them and then you can get more from the other ais. It is also possible to get small sums of money as well as techs when trading and even small amounts help in the early game. To maximize the amount you get trade 1 bc for as many turns as the ai will give you.

2. Here are the techs that the ai basically won't trade except for ridiculous amounts in the early game:

Corvettes, Deflectors, Interstellar Tactics, Battleships, Disruptors.

Later they basically won't trade any tech which gives you a new ship like Dreadnoughts or Avatars.

3. If you have taken a diplomacy pick so your diplomacy rating is better than the ais you can keep them all at good relations just by offering the occasional single influence point.

4. If an ai has no techs that I need but I have some that he needs I'll trade him techs for freighters. Very quick way to get early long trade routes.

Mid Game:

1. Once you start getting some ai planets to flip you can trade them back to the ai for absolutely exorbinant prices. I'm talking 10 to 12 techs or 3 or 4 starbases. They still won't give you much more than 100 bc for most planets though. This is always how I easily catch back up in tech. The key here is that the planets will soon flip back to you again. You can even trade these planets to ais other than the original owner for a huge profit.

2. 4 fully outfitted starbases will flip all planets in adjacent sectors to you within about 12 turns or so. 6 will do it extremely fast and if you want to start before you reach party palaces you can do it pretty easily with 5 or 6 SB's at around 200% culture.

End Game:

1. My end games are slow if I want to maximize my score because I like to do my own researching to pump that up, build excaliburs and try to take out the last ai militarily to build up military score and pump up my population to build the society and economy score.
If you want to end it quick though, either terror star culture SB's moving into your allies sectors or terror star alpha strikes are the way to go.

Good luck with maso all :)

I forgot all about that! Excellent! The trade for frieghters idea is also excellent, kewl!

Cotal has reached the top. :CONGRAT:

Next stop: 500,000 player points? Will the days of Staffa return, where one player was worth half a major empire's points? Only time will tell. Meanwhile, I forsee the ANZACs offering 20 servants to peel grapes and fan the prominent scorer in order to keep good favor and hope she doesn't go wandering again on any strange whims! :)

It surprises me how similar your tactices are to mine. My only real differences are using a rare tiny galaxy, far less constructors, researching everything myself, end game cultural flip. Some useful additions.

5. CTRL+U reveals entire map. Why waste 5 minutes sending out scouts when you can waste 5 seconds. Then just reload.

I assume like most high scorers you disable cultural, alliance and tech victories? It's worth allowing cultural and seeing what score you get. You may still get 60k as you're hitting the limit, but achieve this an hour or two earlier!

Solitair . . . nice suggestion (are you psycic?). Last game I sumbited I was actuallly trying that . . . had 97% galactic influence at one stage but the game just kept on going . . . ? Ended up just vaporizing the laast half dozen or so planets in frustration . . . hehe.

I'll probably drop back to huge maps and see if 60k's achievable. In the numerous 60k games I've submited I've really played poorly in a couple of them compared to others . . . kinda defeats the purpose of playing at all when thats happening (at least until the 60k score limit is raised, which I don't realisticaly expect to happen anytime in the forseeable future) . . . :notsure:

Cotal I plan to play 11 games at each size (except tiny). I've finished small and have one more medium to do (I'd be done that but I accidentally submitted a game under the wrong name and apparently its lost forever :() Not likely, but I may get to huge before you play a huge and I'll let you know if its possible to get 60k or close to it.
