ORTHODOX unorthodox

New styles available..

Last month we released SkinPlant's Unorthodox skin pack.  It was a collection of 5 skins that took on totally unique ideas on how the Windows GUI might be done.  It's been a hit with users.  But many users loved the designs so much that they requested that we provide them with "normal" styles as well.  That is, ones with the standard Windows configuration.

So this month, Unorthodox has been updated to include Orthodox skins. If you already have Unorthodox, just go here and put in your email address and it'll send you a link to the updated pack.

Here's an example using Tablet PC (Unorthodox/Orthodox):

Well, it looks nice, but how could I know if I will or won't have the "All programs" (Start) issue, since my Windows XP is in Portuguese-Brazil?

Some skins doesn't look nice, e.g. CyberSkin (Link):

Maybe you could inform if a skin is or is not compatible with other idiom than english!

FYI.... In most cases setting the text font size on the all programs BACKGROUND image to arial 10 should solve the misaligning all programs arrow. I can't promise anything with the pace that wb is updated but last I checked it was still a pretty good solution. I don't have the skin pack to check but just thought I would throw that out there. Its also a quick fix in skinstudio or notepad. Hope it helps someone. If someone with the skinpack can find the line in the code I could explain how it is fixed.

The issue in the screenshot is caused by using an large arrow image to cover the whole 'all programs' area to simulate a full button. I don't think we've used that method in any of the skins, so it shouldn't happen with them.

The problem on non-English XP systems usually occurs when the "All Programs" text has been forced off the menu and an extra wide arrow image is used, which usually contains the text within it (as seen in the CyberSkin example). The skinner will adjust the content margins enough to push the English phrase "All Programs" off the menu, but on a non-English sytem, the phrase can be longer or shorter, leaving the arrow image misaligned.

We haven't done this with any of the Unorthodox/Orthodox skins. They all use plain text with a standard sized arrow image.

Hi,

I've puchased it. Really nice!

However, I had a little issue regarding "All Programs" (almost perfect):

Can I fix it using SkinStudio Pro?

Thanks!

Gallus, open the skin in SkinStudio and go to the XP Taskbar preview. Click on the "All Programs" text in the preview and it will take you to that section of the skin. On the right side of SkinStudio, under Attributes, find Content Margins and reduce the left one until all of the text and arrow can fit.

Wizop MikeB314,

I set "-14" and now it's better!

Can you add a smaller left margin in next update? Will this new value affect other idiom?

By the way, I'd like to suggest compact menu in the next version of the suite.

Thank you!

Gallus, that won't effect anything else besides the All Programs area. I'll be sure to correct that next time it's updated, and I'll keep the compact start menu in mind.

Hi Super Wizop MikeB314,

I'm facing another issue with Anomaly Orthodox (one of the best skin!).

There is an application named STOIK Video Converter 2. Link

Some skins are compatible with it, but some aren't. This kind of issue could not happen. I think WB should handle this kind of situation better.

Anyway, Anomaly Orthodox doesn't work with STOIK Video Converter 2. Its window gets bigger and bigger and I have to end it.

Compatible skins: FlyOS, Element Default and Royale

Maybe you can figure out why Anomaly Orthodox is incompatible since there are skins that work with the application without problem.

Maybe even Stardock could take a look at this, because maybe WB could handle this instead skin by skin.

Thanks!
