Warning in advance: Halliburton may be involved in Tsunami

Just fair warning to everyone, before the crying starts, that Halliburton very well may wind up involved in the Tsunami disaster relief - in much the same way they're involved in Iraq - because they are one of the few companies in the world that do the jobs they do, in the places they do them.

They're a huge organization, that contracts and subcontracts all over the world in construction efforts, reconstruction efforts, etc.

It would take a very under educated individual to not expect in advance that Halliburton may profit from Tsunami relief efforts. It would take an even more under educated individual not to see in advance the whining and carping that will come when people realize this and start complaining that Halliburton is making money off this tragedy.

Be ready in advance, as you can see it coming folks...

I'm always entertained by a politician's ability to drop a word, or a name and **poof** the press picks up on it and people snap to attention with an "I hear and Obey".

After the Oklahoma City bombing, Prs. Clinton dropped the word "Michigan Militia", and quicker than you can say "wierdo in the woods" all of the sudden, Militias were not only a household word, but public enemy number one. Forget the fact that the only connection McVeigh had to any militia is that he attended a few meetings and they rejected him for being too extreme. Reality means little when there's a witchhunt afoot.

Halliburton does have its faults, of course. However, if you want the infrastructure of your decimated domicile restored, there are few (if any) outfits in the world as up to the challenge as Halliburton. It's kind of ironic, when they were helping us in Desert Storm, Hurricane Andrew, and the Balkans (all without bids.. but don't get me started on how stupid the "bid system" is), they were considered heroes.

BUY AMERICAN!! (Unless that American is Wal~Mart, McDonalds, Clearchannel Communications, Microsoft or Halliburton, then hope for and celebrate the unemployment of millions!!!) Right?

The fact that they are so huge, and have cornered the market on the caliber of projects that they can accomplish has given them license to defraud the American taxpayers out of millions and millions of dollars. They get away with it over and over and over. If they were a small company who had reasonable competition, the federal government would drop their contract with them immediately. But, you have to admit that because they are huge, cornered the market, and are tied to Cheney in a huge way, that of course, they will be scrutinized by people. Taxpayers objected to $500 toilet seats. Why wouldn't they object to Halliburton? Particularly in light of the fact that their contracts are no bid, indefinite quantities contracts. If they're cleaning up the tsunami mess, we're likely going to get bilked some more. That's pretty much a given.

Do you have *any* idea the size and type of infrastructure required? Small companies could NOT afford that type of out lay! It takes a *large* company to be able to have that kind of capital just sitting around waiting for work.

how little education is required to expect in advance that a sole source supplier is very likely going to operate in its own best interests--especially when youre not its sole client?  i may be a dummy but i didnt have to see two movies about dr frankenstein's experiments to realize he was pretty good at creating monsters to serve him (even seemed like a sensible plan from his perspective), but not nearly as successful at controlling them.

Dabe....I have a question for you....I know of your strong....dislike for Haliburton....but my question is this:

If Clinton....or if any other democrat/liberal President or Vice-President was the former CEO of this (or any other company) company...would it then bo "ok" for said company to do what Haliburton does, as far as your accusations go? Answer honestly, think about your answer.....because I think I know what the "real" answer is, whether or not you give that answer.

Again, just wondering....simply because you HATE AND ABHOR all things Bush...and anything even closely connect to Bush....or anything closely connected to any republicans. hmmmm.....

My question is, our military presence in the recovery efforts has been estimated at about $6 million a day. If we are willing to spend that much money to have the military do a job that apparenly, only they can accomplish, how much is too much to pay Halliburton for what only they can accomplish?

((Sorry, I have no link of reference to the $6 million figure. It's just a figure that I've heard on radio and tv. Give it as much credence as you care to. and please, don't make the example the point .)) ;~D
