Heroes

Eveyone has a hero, or a few. Sometimes they are real people and sometimes they might be charachters in film or literature. They could be skinners. One of my heroes in film is George Baily from "It's a Wonderful Life". Only thought of others. From history, it was Uesugi Kenshin, a warlord in feudal Japan that was full of tenacity but also very honorable. The humanity of the Apostle Paul also comes to mind.

What are some of yours?

Maybe it's considered trite, but my biggest hero has always been my father.

It's not trite at all pictoratus - as it happens I don't really enjoy that possibility but my heroes are skill based people - Engineers who understand the skills that built the Industrial Revolution. Horticulturalists that are able to excite people about sustainable, healthy forward thinking ways of growing things. These sort of people, more I think than many other groups, enjoy their ability for it's own sake and don't need their ego's rubbed quite as much.

God in all His forms. F.Nietzsche. (That's weird, I know). Ezra Pound. Mom and Dad. Howard The Duck.

My heroes: Mom,dad, people near my heart, friends, common people who do extraordinary things when times require them to do so.

Great. This disqualifies me from the "everyone" department, for I have no heroes, idols, role-models or what not.

Oh, sorry. I probably should have said "some people" have heroes.

Don't feel bad craeonics....haven't found my hero yet either. When we get a president more interested in peace than war...he'll be my hero. (no chance of that though) When someone tears down the IRS...they'll be my heroes. (when pigs fly) But given the right circumstances....anyone can be a hero!

Bill Gates.
he helped to bring us to the level of OS Customization we are at today.

God, my husband, my parents, Oprah, and anyone who helps others just because they care.

Anyone that perform a selfless act to help another, no matter what circumstances evolve from the act, be it death, imprisonment..etc..a selfless act is after all..a selfless act. All to many people these days only look out for #1, and could care less about another ..

Although I do not agree with Bush's warmongering policies, The US Marines are my personal favorites, for simply putting their life on the line day in and day out, in the name of a dream called freedom. Which is something that each and everyone of them give up a portion of in order to defend ours.

Also, Firefighters are easy to forget when you dont need them...cannot forget 9/11 and how many lost their lives trying to save others..

Televison Heros..LoL..TONS!..but thats because they are just doing their job.

Bruce Lee, because he was the best there ever was, and still has not been matched.

Just a few Heros,
Zero.

(1) My Father who taught for many years and now leads tours in Europe for "Europe through the back door".

(2) My Mother (passed in 1972) who always made even the awful chores seem fun somehow, and who had incredible strength to the end while suffering liver cancer.

(3) My Step-Mother who taught me the value of focused goals and integrity.

(4) Moses who made the decision to return to his family and roots instead of pretending to be something he wasn't.

Great thread as always, SD.

Overall, I would have to say Jesus. He opened the gates of heaven.

On a more personal, here and now kind of level, Myself. There have been a lot of things in my life that no one could help me with because I was the only one who could pull me out of whatever hell I was in. And, somehow, I did it.

The person who performs a selfless act beyond the sight or knowledge of others for no other reason than it is the right thing to do.
If you have done this then you are my hero.

My mom. After her stroke, and subsequent entrance into an association that helped the physically needy, she was able to hellp/teach many of those needy to laugh, despite having nothing to laugh about.
