As we approach the start of a New Year, we seem to have more depressing blogs at JU. I don't mean just the private petty quarrels we've read but pretty much just loneliness. It's ironic in a way since,at this time, we've always had celebrations (It's suppose to be a happy event ), but we've also had a spate of depressions, sadly, even suicides. To think that we've had ancient rites from every culture sweeping away the Old and ushering in the New (What was it -Druids on their wintersolstice? -hope I got that right), and never was loneliness a felt problem.
Got me thinking. It probably has to do with the Net Revolution and consequently blogging, not only as an alternative media, but a form of expression, readily available to everyone's fingertips. One click and you can cry and the world hears you (and even if they ignore you, you still have that sense that you're not that isolated). But that's only one part of it.
The other part is - and let's just get right down to it - You being with the one you love at this time of the Year. You know, you've braved the Old Year together , it's time to celebrate the coming Year with a stronger hope that you'll remain stronger together .
But what if... what if you're not with the one you love ? (No, not "love the one you're with.", seriously) It's much like having two grown-up daughters leaving their Dad for their boyfriends on New Year's Eve. It's much like the phone call I used to make to at least share a New Year's kiss audibly which I can't do this time because the other end of the line won't answer.
So, before I make my way to Times Square in the hope of bumping into friend/s/friendly stranger/s who might want to give me a New Year's greeting, I'd like to (don't laugh) sing you this song. Singing (Which I safely do in the bathroom , on occasions) eases my tension and it could work that way for a lot of other people. So I'll just grab this mike ,karaoke style... what ?? Okay, I'll let go of the mike (for fear of a tsunami). The second song, by way, will be "She-Bang". Don't worry, I'll be passing around earplugs before that. For all you lonely people out there, just remember,....as a minority group we have our rights too! OK. Okay. Quiet.
