Earthquake devistation thousands just been killed

how it can all end in an instant

So here we are a day after Christmas and thousands have perished in an earthquake not seen this size in the last century. An 8.9 earthquake has hit off the Indonesian coast of Aceh producing tsunamis killing people in Thailand, Indonesia, the Maldives, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka.

The following picture showing the earthquakes epicentre and the amount of aftershocks.

As humanity, we strive to survive. We produce wars on large scales. Our lives are consumed by consumerism and daily dramas. Yet in an instant nature can show us who really is in charge on this planet. Let's all take a moment to remember these people and the devistation that has just struck them and the turmoil their lives have been placed.

So sad...may their souls be blessed and may all those they left behind find comfort in the fact that the world cares.

It's amazing how something like this can put a perspective on life.

I got up, loggon on to the news, and saw that...and I had to run to tell D because I wanted to make sure I wasn't still dreaming.

It wasn't the earthquake per se that killed then, it was the tsunami's.  Big walls of water, moving fast and taking out anything that gets in their way.  I've watched shows on TV about them, and thay've always given me a sense of fearful helplessness.....and now we see why.

Mankind thinks that it's so powerful and smart (and we are)....but when it comes to forces of nature like hurricanes, eathquakes and tsunami's, we're weak and stupid.  We can't do anything about them, we're powerless to stop them.

My thoughts today will be with those who lost their lives, and the families who are left behind to pick up the pieces.  If I could go and help, I would, without hesitation.

One of the joys of life is that you never know what tomorrow will bring. Something wonderful could be just arond the corner. But the down side is that something horrible could be as well. While it is bad that all those people died and even more are hurt, we should live each day to its fullest so that when it's our turn to die (which will come all too soon) we will be ready for it.

There are now reports of waves in Western Australia, and also Africa.

The earth rang like a bell yesterday, scientists are also saying it has changed the rotation of the earth. Amazing how this has affected the whole globe. I wonder what is coming next??

Where did you read that? I'm curious.

It's bad news. Shows how powerful nature is. A single hurricane has enough power in it to power USA for few years.

So true. It's horrible and makes you think about your own immortality. So true.

A friend of mine is in Sri LAnka at the moment. They talk of terrible destruction and dead bodies everywhere. They were lucky to escape and will be back home on Thursday. Im sure there will be many more stories to come from this.
