[HELP] Start Menu Disoriented With Skins! (I'm using 120 DPI)

Hi,

I bought the full version of Window Blinds 4.3, and I downloaded a few skins... they all install and work fine EXCEPT for the start menu, everything in it is out of place and disoriented. I think it's a problem with my DPI settings, because my DPI setting is on High (120 DPI). Because of my gfx card, I have to use 120 DPI, there's no way I can change it. I believe a few skins like K-Tek offer a second skin that fixes the Start Menu problem with 120 DPI settings.

Here's a screen shot of how the Start Menu is 'messed up' http://img28.exs.cx/img28/9927/startmenu.jpg

Most of the skins don't support the 120 DPI settings, and I REALLY would like them too, so Does anyone know of a way to fix it? Like is there any way I can change some skin settings around or something?

Thanks in Advance!!

You can try editting the margins of the various start menu elements in skinstudio - however some graphic layouts just won't offer a satisfactory solution. Alot of skinners probably aren't even aware of the 120 dpi setting, I know I wasn't until I was told about it in one of my earlier skin's comments. For K-TEK I had to make custom graphics for the 120 dpi substyle as the originals just didn't want to play ball.

It's made trickier because skinstudio does not offer an accurate preview of the appearance of a skin at 120 dpi, so there is some trial and error involved.

The skin in your preview looks as tho it can be improved quite alot by changing the sizing margins in skinstudio. Skins with custom "all program" button graphics tho will generally need special 120dpi version graphics for that element, or else a more standard small button graphic with the flat mouseover colour.

It would be very nice if in a future version of skinstudio there was a way to preview the start menu as it would appear at 120 dpi.

Gah, I don't have Skin Studio... the best I can do is change the start menu to 'classic start menu' it's a lot uglier, etc. but it's better than that disorientated one. :/

120 DPI settings

That's the problem.

Go to the normal settings and it will be fine.
Or get glasses.

Going to normal settings is not an option and getting glasses won't fix the scrambled start menus.  I have a smallish monitor and I wanted to test the 120 dpi.  Everything got huge so I took it off.  Then i changed my resolution to 1280.  That was ok but everything was very small.  So I applied 120 dpi and am kind of excited because I think i like this combination.  And the start menu's are all scrambled.  It looks like some of the graphics do not stretch but tile.

TBH, I rarely see the start menu any more.  Sometimes I use object bar, and lately I have been using Object Dock+ to access those things I kept on the start menu.  If you are an OD user, there is a new application called right click that might be useful.

dang typos...

I cant believe we are now in 2006 with WB 5.1 and 120 DPI is still messing up the majority of skins. I just installed WB 5.1 after quite a few months without skining, only to remember why I dropped them. There is no way I would ever pay for WB again with so few options for functional 120 DPI skins.
