Alright, I might be sounding like a n00b, of which I think I am when it comes to skinning and what not, but for the past few weeks I've been trying to find the program you all use to build these skins. I have Photoshop 7, Fireworks MX, Paintshop Pro 8 so I shouldnt have a problem with the graphics side, I just need the program to do the rest. HELP!!!!!!!

For graphics there's Gimp which is free....you'll have to google 'cause I don't know where it lives on the net. Other than that you need whatever program is used to create the skin (SkinStudio to make WindowBlinds), sometimes it's the same one that runs the skin (LogonStudio to make Logons). There are free versions of most of this software at Stardock Finally some proggies just need you to create an *ini or configuration file with Notepad.


From the threadis there a easier way to make skins? or cheaper

You have the paint programs, so to make windowblinds, WMP, get SkinStudio. Not sure what type of skins you want to make. Logon Studio for logons, etc.

This might sound crazy compared to what everyone else may suggest but I found it easiest to learn using desktop X. It just allowed me the freedom to create images and graphics without any limitations. Windowblinds, icons, etc can be a bit more tricky because of certain parameters. Configuring objects in Desktop X is very easy. Well that's just my two cents anyways.

I'm looking to build my own SysMetrix skins. I've looked through what I think is all possible options of the program and I still have yet to find anything that remotely says, "create new skin". Is there a 3rd party program that I need to DL or do I simply make the background, upload it into SysMetrix, then add the desired fields?

Then, you missed it. Theme Settings section "create new theme" button.

do I simply make the background, upload it into SysMetrix, then add the desired fields


It's as simple as that. This is why most people start out skinning sysmetrix.

Honestly, I never did think of reading that! I have a problem with not wanting to read but rather than just doing it! I'll have to do that next time I have a problem! THX
