how do i get the logon screen to not pop up when my computer idles for a few min

Are you sure that's not a screensaver popping up? Right click the desktop > Properties > Screen Saver tab, and check to see if you have a screensaver running.

im positive i have the screensaver turned off and it makes me re-login everytime

Check your Monitor Power settings. Right click your desktop and click properties to bring up the Display Properties Dialogue. On the Screensaver Tab at the bottom is where you'll find the Power button. Clicking on this will bring up the Power Settings Dialogue. Check to see the timeout settings for Turn Off Monitor, System Standby, and System Hibernate. Unless these are set to "Never" anyone of them could put your system to sleep even with a screensaver off. If they aren't set to never, then this is the cause. If you look on the Advanced tab, you'll find a check box for "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby. If this box is checked, then Windows will bring up the logon screen when you resume. Uncheck it if you want to bypass the logon screen.

Hus, if he has his screensaver set to "(None)", which he says he does, then the "On resume, display Welcome Screen" option is disabled.

If he is a public user, not the administrator, it will display the welcome screen after the screensaver comes on, or monitor turns off, or whatever you have your computer set to do.

That would be the case only if the administrator set things up so his level user could not change display properties. Since he said that it's his computer, and that he can turn off the screensaver, he apparently has access to display properties.

Right click on the desktop and choose Properties from the menu.

This will bring up the Display Properties Dialogue.

Click on the Screensaver tab.

If your screensaver is set to (None), then you need to check the power settings by clicking the Power button at the bottom of the dialogue.

Then follow what I said in Post #5.

If the screensaver is set to anything other than (None), then just to the right of where it says Wait "X" minutes, you will see a checkbox for "On resume, display Welcome screen. Uncheck it.

You''re welcome, and I hope it works too. By the way, those power settings I referred to will override your screensaver and turn the monitor off, put the computer in standby or hibernate status. By default, many systems are set to turn the monitor off after 20 minutes of idle time, and the Welcome screen on resume is also a default setting.
