/me wonders how someone came to think of him as a "Big Gun"......?? Flattering, but most certainly untrue. Is my name in that list on the right? No. And to suggest I may receive special treatment in the judging makes me very angry. I can assure you that I too am in awe of the "real" big guns, but don't expect them to be treated any differently to the rest of us. And I also predict that I will win precisely nothing. That won't bother me, it's been fun making the skins, and even more fun to see and download the amazing entries so far.

I am certain of one thing though...... the best skins WILL win, and there should be no arguments from anyone when they do. The best skins just shine.... we know which ones they are, they are the ones we ordinary mortals wish WE could have made...... hehe..

Lets just enjoy the fun and the wonderful skins eh?

If people really think that Boxxi is getting special treatment should take a look at his work. I think it speaks for itself. Heck, even if he was getting special treatment he has earned it. Good stuff!

While the quantity may be down, the quality, at least in the last few days, has been outstanding. Speaking to you young skinners, from somebody who has no, zero, none, artistic abilitydon't be intimidated by the so-called "big guns". They were all just little guns at one time but through practice and effort, which all you artistic types are capable of, made themselves into big guns.

Big Guns? This is something that only have in the mind of some people...as BoXXi well said, it also anoys me...it looks that our hard work is nothing more then a previlegied favoritism for some kind of admin...an that, for sure is not true.

To me, a "big gun" is nothing more then a Magnum 44

I hope that I didn't offend anyone with my "big guns" post-that term to me connotates an experienced skinner who consistently turns out superior work. Any favoritism shown to them, at least in my mind, comes from showing respect for their track record. I will of course, in remourse, last myself nearly to death with a wet noodle.

You have offended all the small guns! 

maybe we should all have "gun titles" instead of our usual titles like skinner and apprentice etc. So you could have:

Magnum Treetog  

or

Derringer BoXXi.

Sounds about right...hehe

Good idea!

I should have a Winamp skin. *Should*. I have to say that as one who is used to MSDN and PHP.net, the scripting reference at Winamp.com SUCKS, some of which are even 404. I think the lack of participation thus far is caused, at least in part, by the choice of apps. I really mourn the fact that the categories weren't more open, like "Media player", "Shell Theme", etc. People would have more easily jumped in and did what they were already good at.

Making them so app specific isn't unreasonable, but in the end when people have to learn a new app in order to play, a lot won't go to the trouble, or commit, and then later realize they don't have the time or inclination. If there ever is a 3rd GUIO, I would suggest open "class" categories, like the ones I mentioned above. I really think there would be a lot more participation had this been the case this year.

Personally, I think there will be an exponential growth in the number of entries as we approach the deadline(s)...
Some people (such as myself) will be doing only one skin but would like to make it the best it can possibly be, and will take all of the alloted time to accomplish that goal.

Maybe someone can explain this statement to me? Since when are "small time artists" having skins rejected? Are skins ever rejected? The library here is chock full 'o small time artists.

No offense, but I generally don't see a lot of quality or "originality" from small time artists. Frankly, the average n00b skinner spits out filter puke and photoskins.

It never ceases to amaze me. I go away for a month or two, come back, and people are saying the same things, over and over and over. I would suggest Everquest. Sure it is a horribly addictive waste of time, but at least you don't have to make a game out of it, and there is no pretense of intellectualism or reality.

Hmn....some of the artists who have had WB skins accepted are just folks who started doing skins and have been plugging away for it for a while. Like Dark Mist, Gabe, Keila, Bones, Crissy 14, Cerebro to name a few. And a first ever WB from someone known as "Scarebear" Also such common "household names" as Vlad, NightTrain, etc. Are they all "big guns" now?

Sounds like someone had a skin moderated out of competition (as other people have had without a subsequent hissy) and now rationalizes it by claiming favoritism against "the little guy" is why it didn't make it to the GUIO. What bollocks. (Can I say that here?)

Wonder what the other "little" guys (and gals) who have just been turning out the work, improving their skills and did have work accepted think about that? I've seen many of these folks from the time they first started out making skins and they've just kept working at it. It's a really facile and transparently unmerited slap against them and the others to denigrate their accomplishments just because one can't accept having a work moderated out of competition.

Chas...it takes time to check the submissions thoroughly.

Note particularly the skin submission that crashed my shell.... [both Explorer and LiteSTEP]....needless to say such 'goofs' have to be weeded out...

Have you seen G pod? At this stage your skin better be pretty darn good. The time to get the simpler skins in was at the beginning. Thats what I did, and when the skins started flowing in they tightened up and I have gotten 4 denials since. How stiff do you think the mods are going to be at the at the end when everyone is submitting there masterpieces? Its all about giving your best shot. If your best shot is not good enough then you need to become a better shot.
