Start 11 Issues and desires

Desktop icons flickering, wanting taskbar folders to open as menus

Hello, My trial version of Start11v2 is about to expire. Quite often, the icons on the desktop flicker and I need to click Ctrl/shift/ecs and the click to restart Windows Explorer, which has become a nuisance. Also, I want to have my taskbar folders to be able to open as a menu, where I can select a sub-folder without the whole folder opening across my desktop.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Perhaps, there is conflict with other software, as a test, please try Sandbox and see if the same issue appear: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1416855562/Testing+Start+in+Sandbox. Try that and report back.

Basj,

Thank You for a sugestion. I have never heard of sandbox, let alone have any familiarity with it. Aside from clicking the link, can you tell me what to expect and how to get back out of sandbox. The glitch/flickering began after I downloaded start 11. It seems to occure on startup. Does it matter if I click the link after I've already clicked Ctrl/shift/esc & clicked to restart windows explorer, or do I need to click the link when the problem is still going on?

Also, I miss not having the folders I put in my taskbar being able to open as a menu.

There is information readily available online on Windows Sandbox. The Sandbox is just like a Virtual system. The Sandbox will delete itself off when you shutdown the Sandbox. The link I provide above is just a link to a guide on how to do the Sandbox test.

Basj, After clicking the link, it indicated the need to have Windows 10 or 11 Pro. As it is, I do not have either. I have Windows 11 Home, which does not have sandbox. In addition, it seems the purpose of sandbox is not to fix the problem, but only to verify that the problem is not part of Windows 10 or 11 pro, but in fact is apart of Start 11 program, which as far as I'm concerned, I already know it is, because it never surfaced prior to my downloading Start 11. For some reason, Startdock is not taking any requests for assistance or issues with Start 11.       So my only recourse to solve the glich in Start 11 is through the community blog. You are the only one so far that has responded to my issues with Start 11, including my mention of my desire to have my task menu folders open as sub-folders, which has yet to be addressed.  So at this point, it looks like I'm still stuck with the 2 issues. No disrepect; Do know of any solution to Start 11's glitch issue, aside from sandbox? Larry

Noted, if Sandbox is not possible, please try Clean boot, refer here for Clean boot steps: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1334935592/Start11+Clean+Boot. Do note that Clean boot need to be done with care. Try it and report back.

Basj. I'm not comfortable with doing "Clean Boot". So I will put up with the problem in Start 11 unless I find another way to fix Start 11 issue.

Just to clarify, I don’t believe this is a Start11 issue. If it were, we would expect to see many more reports from other users experiencing the same problem. Start11 is currently in use by over 500 companies, covering thousands of endpoints—not including personal systems—without this specific issue being reported.

That’s why I’ve been trying to identify what might be unique in your setup that’s causing the conflict. Without that information, it’s difficult to pinpoint the source of the problem.
