Start11 v2 Taskbar doesn't launch centered half the time on Win10

I saw the most recent update mentioned "Fixes an issue with centered mode on the taskbar on Win11 not instantly applying sometimes" and updated, but this didn't fix my issue.

I'm on Windows 10 Pro 22H2 build 19045.6456, using Start11 v2.56

In the Start11 settings, I set my taskbar to be center aligned. But on PC startup, half the time it is left-aligned, and toggling that setting back and forth doesn't change it, it's just stuck on the left. My way of fixing it is by restarting or signing out and back in to re-launch Start11, but it's aggravating needing to do so half the time, sometimes repeatedly.

It used to be a rare occurrence on Start11 v1, and only became so frequent in some recent v2 patch.

Oh and I have two screens - sometimes this happens on one or the other, not sure if that's relevant.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. First,p lease try, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.

Thank you,

I did that, and restarted a bunch of times to test. It still happens but less frequently, maybe 10% of attempts instead of 50%.

Do you also have any other application running in the background that also add or change the taskbar and/or the Start button/ Start menu? Stardock Windowblinds, Explorerpatcher etc

I don't have anything running that affects the start menu / taskbar, but I did run Powertoys with FancyZones. I now disabled it as it wasn't important for me, and the issue seems to be gone maybe, but I can't say for sure as it's less reproducible now (rare). Either way, thanks for the help!

I must admit, I do encounter this behavior occasionally—perhaps once every few days. Fortunately, it's easily resolved by restarting Explorer.exe.

In fact, I often restart Explorer.exe as part of my workflow, though not necessarily for the same issue you're experiencing. To streamline the process, I've created a small batch file and placed it on my desktop, linked to a macro key on my keyboard. With a single press, I can restart Explorer instantly.

If you'd like to set up something similar, here’s the batch code I use:

taskkill /im explorer.exe /f
start explorer.exe
exit

Yeah, just got it again despite the clean install and removing PowerToys.

Good that it's less frequent, and that there's a bandaid for it, but the issue remains

Quoting liranbr, reply 6

clean install
End of liranbr's quote

You mean you did a full reformat and reinstall Windows? or Clean install Start11?

If you wish to look deeper, please try Clean boot, refer here: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1334935592/Start11+Clean+Boot. Do note that Clean boot need to be done with care. Try that and report back.
