Start 11 2.53 - Regular crashes with groups of buttons

regular crash - auto restart of explorer

Win 11,
Hi there,

This issue has actually been going on since I first installed and paid for Start11, but I have been ignoring it hoping it will be fixed.

It is a simple repro here:

  • I have a number of groups of applications in my Start menu. (Created by dragging icons onto each other, so that it makes a group of items, and then renaming the section to something relevant).
  • Very often, when I click to expand a group (so that I can select an item inside it), Start11 crashes and restarts Explorer. This whole process takes about 5 - 10 seconds, and it is really starting to get frustrating.
  • This happens at least 5 or 6 times each day.

The first screen shot shows a "group" and then I click where the arrow points, to open the group the crash happens.

This screenshot shows the desired result and what happens without the crash.

I am a QA tester and IT professional. So, my machine is very well maintained.

I can send log files and have backed up my settings but can find no way to attach them here.

System info:

  • Windows 11 24H2
  • 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K (3.00 GHz)
  • Installed RAM 128 GB (128 GB usable)

Thank you,

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available v2.55(beta) in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products . Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back. Also, we need to know your Windows 11 24H2 build number. Use Winver.exe to get the OS Build number.

Thank you,

Hi there and thanks,

My Win version is: 24H2 26100.6584

I actually just installed the beta 2.55 while posting that, although I just did an on top install, without the reboots in between. (Although I did reboot afterwards).

I will observe it over today's work and see. So far, the normal crash that I mentioned above, usually happens quite quickly and it hasn't happened yet. Fingers crossed.

If it does happen again, I will do as you said and do the full uninstall / reboot / reinstall / reboot.

Please do let me know if there are any logs or other useful items, I can send to you.

Cheers for now,

P.
