Start11 (Windows 10 style menu) causes Explorer to crash

Happens when asking for something that requires a file to be chosen

New user here.

When I ask Start11 to do something that requires me to pick a file (so, it launches Explorer) this works as expected the first time after a restart. After that, the Explorer windows appears but takes a very long time to become responsive, or completely disappears, and if it does, after that, generally the Windows UI will reinitialize.

The actions that trigger these symptoms have been:

  • Selecting a file to link to a tile
  • Changing the icon of a link
  • Saving a backup

I have a file with the Event Viewer records, but I can't work out how to attach it to this post. The series of events begins

Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 10.0.26100.4768, time stamp: 0xbd2489c5

I have the Event Viewer records and the associated crash dumps if they would be any help.

Crash dmp files would be incredibly helpful.

It would be best to ensure you are using 2.55.1 (shows as 2.55 in UI) released last week just so it has all the latest fixes.

Also do you have anything else altering the OS as this can sometimes cause issues.

I would be happy to send the dump files but I can't see how to attach files like that to a post.

I now have a month's worth of dump files but still nowhere to send them. And I've given up on the problem. The Windows 11 native menu may be nearly useless, but it is at least stable, so with some reluctance I'll go back to using that.

If you are able to upload them to say a dropbox account or similar then you can send me a private message on this forum with the link.
